For hunting deer, a paper plate size group is good enough... That will cover the vitals.. But It looks for best accuracy a after market barrel is needed..

A half inch projectile should easily be a clover leaf at that range, with all shots touching to just call it a 2 moa gun. Halfway overlapping of each shot (with that 1/2" projectile) would be the moa standard. It seems that we are going backwards in our standards for accuracy in the bigger bores, whereas if they were a small bore the world would be coming apart if the groups were that big.

It also takes more skill to get a small group with a powerful rifle. These big bore Challengers have a 30" barrel, that's a difficult tool to master.

A two inch group at 40 yards from a bench rested position is hardly acceptable to me, except for a shot shell with turkey load that is. ;-) I will probably be re-lining the 457 to a smaller diameter so the off-the-shelf precision swaged ammo selection will fit the bore correctly. But first, I got this beautifully machined barrel tuner today from this eBay seller. https://www.ebay.com/itm/185147781725?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20180105095858%26meid%3D39435a5f9f444382bf118ac5862cfff3%26pid%3D100904%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D20%26sd%3D185042798090%26itm%3D185147781725%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2332490%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p2332490.c100904.m5276%C2%A0It%27s
I’ve not followed the entire thread but have you checked the crown. Two of my AEA’s had disgusting crown work. The barrels were actually good after fixing the issue.
Me too Bob
I believe that the AEA air gun lineup is marketed as a hunting rifle and not a benchrest or custom AG.Any AG can be made into a acceptable benchrest shooter with some tweaking and accuracy mods.I'm very pleased with the accuracy of my two AEA's without any mods.
