Shooting Date: 08/13/20
Shooter: Tom Boylan
Distance: Outdoor range; 100 yards
Gun: RAW HM1000x .22 caliber
Optics: Vortex 6-24X50 FFP
Ammo: JSB 25g redesigns
Wind: NNE @ 6 mph, but calm at times too
50/50; 3X; 1.29" CTC
Position: Bench Rest seated; Rear Bag and Accu-Tac G2 Bipod

Went to the range today, very hot.  Wind was light, but did get to 6mph at times.  I tried to shoot when it laid down.  I used the RAW again, but this time I shot it at 950 FPS and with a new batch of the RDs from Trenier.  I got a 10 sleeve and they shot well today.  I'm still working with technique, but improving also.  I shot a total of "5" NUAH targets, and the #5 target will be by submission for September.  I did use a .35 caliber plug from ThomasAir on AGN to score the groups.  I freely admit that the pellet on #5 is very close to hitting the line and I will let Marty and others make the call.  To me, it looks like it's just inside by the thinnest of margins.

Hey, thanks Jimmy.  The RAW is shooting well, but I freely admit I can pretty much count on a flier on these NUAH targets.  It’s almost always on the 5th pellet.

I’m starting to think it might be me and not the pellet.   Lol.

You are right Bob.  If I reflect back on many of the practice NUAH targets I have shot over time, there are quite a few that have been spoiled because of one shot outside the 10 ring.  It can’t be the wind or a bad pellet in most of those scenarios.  It’s me!

Steve, great shooting and especially if this was your very first time at 100 yards and with a new PCP!  Getting "3" in the X ring is pretty nice!

too many close ones- why I love the challenge, guys- Not my 1st time up here but it is with THIS one- But like Fussell, I probably have 4 cards to every good one- Always a screwy breeze going on here, so 4-8 is a calm day- Trying to upgrade to master from expert but always get amped on that LAST shot!! LOL- Got to get off my A** & build ANOTHER proper bench( shooting off a wobbly 4' resin table with Cauldwell Stinger) Funny how I can wax 1/2" sticky dots on my gong @ same range all day long but as soon as I get on paper & trying harder that things go south! LOl

Great target Tom.  Almost 4 x's.  I went out to the range today but it was pretty windy. I did try two targets at 100 yards and was all over the place, so gave up.  The target I’m submitting is from last Tuesday, the 11th.  The wind was a little better (around 4-8 mph) and I shot two NUAH targets when it slowed down some.  The first target wasn't bad (48/50) but the last round got blown over to the right side of the nine ring so my group size was 1.83" The second target looked pretty good and measure out to just over an inch.  No sub-MOA for me this time.  Just as a side note, I shot these with the JSB 25 grs instead of the 34 grs I’ve been using.  Need to do more testing to see which is actually more accurate in my rifle.  Score: 50/50 2x  1.18”.

FX Crown .25
Athlon Argos BTR 6-24
JSB 25 gr
Bench with front rest and rear bag
50/50 2x  1.18" CTC

Shot at the Pioneer Gun Club, McBride Range

Mike

I think your Calipers are slightly off.  I superimposed your posted target and I actually got .9999” CTC, so that would elevate you to Master.  How fast are those 25g going?

50/ 50 with .25 Crown ( or any air gun ) is fantastic.  That was a great great NUAH target!  Congrats!

Thanks, Tom.  I think your right about my calipers.  They are cheapos from Harbor Freight and I suspected they were off a little.  I keep saying I’m going to get a better set but haven’t gotten around to it yet.  As for the Master class, I was lucky enough to make Master in May, shot a 50/50 2x .879”.  First sub-MOA group I’ve ever shot with an air rifle at 100 yards.

I think the 25 grs are going in the neighborhood of 925 fps.  The 34 grs. I usually shoot are going about 830 fps.

I see you are in Chapel Hill.  I visited the University of North Carolina there when I thought I might go there after high school.  I lived at Fort Bragg for a couple of years in the 60's when I was a kid and went to Fayetteville High school.

I was teasing about your calipers being slightly off, but I as I read your last response, I realized I had “forgotten” to mention that I was joking.  My bad!

I was trying to kid with Marty and did not realize you had already achieved Master status. The joke was on me.

I shoot my .25 cal RW Safari at 900 FPS on low power with the JSB Exact Kings 25g and the accuracy is pretty good. It is very challenging to shoot sub MOA with an air gun at 100!
