Hi Bruce
No doubt they were using up remainder Eagle rock receivers whether they had stamps on them or not.
This one only has the "S" stamp but is .22 caliber. it also has the earliest "no ramp" breech, so its definitely an older receiver that hung around awhile in the parts bin before finally being used. They did not even bother to add the .22 stamp on it like your pistol.
The Eagle rock labeled pistols are the first Variant Plainsman CO2 pistol. I don't think that all that many old receivers
were left over to be used up before going over to the new manufacturer. The grips should be vertically grooved tenite.
The Eagle Rock shotgun receivers used a single grooved screw as the rear sight. I noticed the shotgun receiver pistols use two different style screws to attach the pistol rear sight. The flat one at the front may be a different thread than the normal dome sight screw for the rear. Can you check that out.
By the way, My Eagle rock CO2 pistol is stamped .22 has no ramp and both screws the same
so of the three eagle rock pistols I have seen
One is marked "S" (two different rear sight screws) (no ramp)
One is marked "S" and .22 (two different rear sight screws) (ramp)
and one is marked only .22 ( same rear sight screws) (no ramp)

I have a Challenger Plainsman .22 CO2 air pistol from the Dean Fletcher collection . It has no markings other than saying challenger Plainsman on the rear of the right receiver side. I keep it charged with the 8gram carts all the time and I find it to be on par with the Crosman 150 as to power and accuracy . I'm curious as to why some think these are wall hangers as I find them easy to work on and they were advertised originally as CO2 guns that the owner could service?

Dave, I thought you had seen mine, but it differs from the three you listed, so here you go. Marked only .22, different rear sight screws, with ramp.
There's no parts diagram; however, the parts list has different numbers for the Reat (sic) sight (Pistol 62 and Rifle 63) but only one number for mounting screw, 65.
Up until I read your post, I had always presumed one of my rear sight mounting screws was not original, 'cause they're matching (domed) on my pump rifle. The Instruction/parts list/warranty card is dated January 1, 1954. Interestingly, the first item to complete on the warranty card is "serial number".

Thanks
Can you please send a scan or picture of the parts list front and back.
Does the warranty card ask for a serial?

Yes, and the SN block wasn't the only thing that surprised me. Check out the paragraph that appears right above it. The difference between the rear sight screws is hard to see in the photo, but they are not interchangeable. The major thread diameter on the dome head is .162 inch vs .212 inch on the flat head.

Duh! I just realized the smaller diameter of the dome screw, along with the shape of the hole in the rear sight that it passes through, are to allow sight adjustment for windage.

So I just acquired this one. Appears refinished to my rookie eye. Happen to have some 8grams on the shelf. Forgot, until shooting in the basement (moments after opening the box), about the adjustment available. It's loud and shoots hard. What's my serial number tell you?

That's not a serial number. It's possibly a repair stamp or an inventory stamp.
