I finally decided to try a little NUAH shooting today. I went up to one of the old chicken houses and set up there. It was misting rain and calm when I started, but the wind picked up to about 5MPH I'm guessing before I finished. The chicken houses still have a good roof but the sides are wide open except for some 2"X2" square mesh. The tarps on the side are long gone. It might block a little wind but not much. The 4"X4" post have all rotted off at the ground level. I thought they were 100 yards long but they are actually 130 yards long.
I set up the small folding card table and plastic chair and decided to shoot starting at 10yds and going to 100yds and checking the drop or over every 5 yds. Looks like I'm good from 20yds out to 70yds with 1/2" rise or fall shooting the .218 21gr H&N slugs. ;D Just as Chairgun predicted. Once I got to 70yds I moved the 4-16X44 Nikko Sterling Targetmaster to 10X from 4X. I meant to check for a change in the POI but forgot.
Rather than trying to re-zero the scope I tried a couple of shots using hash marks and dots. I have no idea what setting they are supposed to either be MOA or MILs. I decided to skip the first hash mark and use the first dot. It was the best group of the day! The wind started picking up a little, and I started trying to "steer" the gun instead of letting it settle in the rest. Here's pic, with the 102yd set-up (measured with my Halo rangefinder).

Pics of the target and back to the table. Also, a close up of the group. I wish it had been a 1/2" to the left! ;D

I've never tried shooting off of a rest or bi-pod before. I started trying to zero the scope after the first group. I might be wrong, but it seemed like if I needed to raise/lower the POI or shoot left/right and was "pushing" the gun against the rest, it seemed to affect accuracy. At the same time the wind was starting to go from calm to up to 5MPH (estimated). Here's some other groups that I shot.

Nice shooting there.

Here's the last group. I decided to pull the gun tight against my shoulder instead of lightly resting against it. I also hand fed them instead of using the magazine. I lost count and only shot 4 slugs! LOL Good thing I stopped as bad I was doing.
It reminded of Dave (sb327's) comment, "as little contact with the gun as possible." And here's proof of that concept!
Sorry, apparently that pic didn't make it for some reason. I can't find it. It was probably a 6" spread. I'll post later if I find it, or take another pic. :o

Thanks, Mark. It is addicting as EERoz mentioned in his thread. Hopefully the wind will co-operate again tomorrow. I've got some other slugs in different weights/sizes that I would like to try. Also going to try cleaning the barrel as Bob mentioned in his earlier thread. I've shot nearly 250 slugs through the gun and don't know how many pellets before that.

Ken, Nice shooting there! That's a fantastic setup in the old chicken house. Hopefully those winds settle down for you, looks like you're off to a great start on your first outing.

Ken,
Wow 1.114", I recall that moa is 1.0472"!
That's fantastic.

Congrats on the nice shooting there! Looks like the prophet 2 is performing quite well!

Hey, customcutter, great shooting.... I couldn't find you in the membership list, but that target qualifies you as a Sharpshooter.... You are correct, 1/2" to the left and it would have been Expert.... Welcome to NUAH !!!!!

That’s some nice shootin’
Welcome to NUAH

Thanks Mark, Zack, Hunter, Dave, Bob, and Kevin. Glad I finally got around to trying to make the club. ;D Usually the weather is bad, and I don't have an opportunity.
I just went out and checked around the house with the thermal for coyotes and the wind is blowing 20-30MPH! :o I was really hoping for another light wind in the AM.
I would really like to try a few of the other weights and sizes of slugs that I picked up.
Also, like I said it seemed if I was trying to push the gun slightly left/right to line up the shot. Or if I was raising the rear of the gun, accuracy suffered. The first and best group I tried to cradle the gun in the rest and adjust the rest on target with as little influence from me as possible.
I'll try cleaning the barrel and I want to try shooting off of some shooting rest that I made with some plastic beads and see how the accuracy is. I think the Prophet II has more to give IMO! I've never tried a bi-pod, don't know if it would be better than the bags?

This is just how I shoot MOST of the time.
Standard Caldwell front large bag with a loose fill. Standard Caldwell rear bag about 3/4 full of dried beans.
Get a good trough made in the front bag. Adjust height of rear bag with 1x4’s. Or front bag with 1x4’s. Try to be aiming slightly above intended point of aim.
Use rear bag to aim with. Squeezing the bag will put you on target as well as sliding it left/right.
That’s my down and dirty way to bench shoot without dragging out my actual benchrest equipment.
A rock solid bench is the most important tool in rest shooting imo.
Again, glad that Prophet is treating you well! And congratulations on the nuah!

Thanks for that Dave! I'm shooting off of a small 2'X3' fold up table, with scissoring legs.LOL Anything but rock solid. I watched a few video's last month before making the shooting bags, and they described the technique on the rear bag. I didn't really want to add a bi-pod as this will primarily be a hunting/pesting gun. I bought the cheap $30 Caldwell rest several months ago to use for rats at the house, and mostly use a plastic camera tripod with a towel over the 1/4"x20 screw.
If I get the bug real bad I might have to make a shooting bench! :o

Danged fine shootin' there-congrats! ;D

Thanks Jesse. Wind finally laid down about :30 before dark. Not enough time to try again today. ;D
