Questions about new barrel for P17.

I am considering putting a longer barrel in my Beeman P17. I do have two questions though:
1: What is the longest barrel possible with out hitting the trigger guard (or grip which ever comes first)?
2: What other modifications should I do to go to .22 caliber (not sure if going .22 or .177 yet).?

Pretty sure you can go to about 15" and the gun will still open far enough to intake air without the barrel hitting the handgrip. My barrel is 11" on this one.
Mods - you have to remove the auto safety so that you can pull the trigger when opening to back draft the air thru the exhaust port.
I then also drilled out the exhaust port just slighty. Don't remember how big, but it's posted somewhere on here.
I also sanded off the sights and put a picatinny rail on the top for scope mount.
Barrel was made from a Crosman barrel with a hacksaw blade, a couple files and a drill motor.
Pretty sure the last time I checked I was getting 320fps with 14.3 CPHP's for 3.25FPE

Thank you Rob. I think it is time to adapt my 12 inch .22 cal Crosman barrel (left over from one of the 2289's I had long ago replaced the barrel on).

Also how much difference does it make in how loud the muzzle blast is?

This is my Stealth P17 with a 10 inch barrel and a 6.5 inch TKO. Works very well, and no issues with clearance.

Well I have not yet gotten around to this. Though it looks like I will be getting a 10 inch barrel for it in .177 cal tomorrow (if I can trust the tracking info). Thank you Rob for that barrel.
So to start with it will be a 10 inch .177 cal barrel. It will not be long before I either get another P17 to convert to .22 or I convert this one to .22. We will see what pans out.

10 inch will work fine without the backdraft mod. My P17 in .22 isn't right in front of me, but memory says it is a touch over 11 inches long. Just clears the trigger but the bottom of the gun needed a relief filed in it for the barrel to clear.
Personally I do not want to have to squeeze the trigger to load air, so I avoid that mod. It just feels far too wrong to me to have to squeeze a loaded gun to cock it.

Well tomorrow I will likely be putting the 10 inch barrel in my P17, so we shall see how it goes.
I agree with not wanting to pull the trigger to charge the gun, that would feel completely wrong.

The 10 inch will go on pretty easy. If I remember correctly you will need to notch the bottom as I pictured to get the top all of the way open to charge.
