I finally took my 853 apart to get to know it better, and do the common ‘trigger mods’. While I was examining the trigger parts, I noticed that the trigger and the sear can move independently. I thought, instead of holding the trigger in a position where it’s just about to go off, like the common ‘screw mod’ does, if I could hold just the sear where it is just barely holding the striker, the trigger spring would move the trigger to its normal position. This would result in a light first stage, where the trigger movement is only compressing the trigger spring. Then, when the trigger makes contact with the sear, there would be a perceived ‘wall’ of resistance. Increased pressure would ‘break’ the wall, allowing the striker to fire the gun.I also realized that the sear spring seems unnecessary, since the striker spring keeps constant pressure on the sear. So I removed the sear spring all together. When the trigger is pulled a gap can be seen through the cut away just above the safety. If you place a small wire or pin through that gap, it will prevent the sear from holding the striker. So I removed a small amount of material from the sear to make a slightly larger gap. The amount of material you remove from the sear, and the diameter of the wire, or pin will determine if you end up with a small amount of roll or creep in your second stage, or a sear that can go off when the gun is bumped. If you end up with roll or creep, you can simply use a slightly larger diameter wire to hold the sear. With a little trial and error, you should be able to get a gun that fires as soon as the second stage breaks.I managed to get mine right on the first try. After honing the sear and striker where they touch, and a thorough cleaning and lubing, I am very happy to report that my 853 now has a much smoother trigger with a CLEARLY defined wall, and I know exactly when it’s going to fire.I don’t know if anyone has done this before, but I just had to share my days work. It was much easier than the other mods, and personally, I think the results are better than a really short single stage trigger. I hope someone finds this helpful, and I’d love some feedback if anyone tries it.
