My Daystate Pulsar stock is pretty much "bare" walnut. (see photo) I have been researching how to treat it. Seen all kinds of info including BLO (Boiled Linseed Oil), Beeswax, Tru-oil, etc....
I would like to darken up the stock color some. (see photo) I tried Tru-Oil on a sample piece of walnut and it looked almost like Shellac.
Daystate recommends BLO so I tried a couple coats, which I tried (See photo)
Would like to hear members thoughts on this. I know it is quite subjective and personal, but I am open to ideas.
Thank you.

M, beautiful walnut! I really like how the BLO reddened up the wood....very nice. I recently purchased a Daystate HRXL...did you just remove the action from the stock and oil up the inside and outside?

I actually took off stock. Unassembled as much as I could. Covered plastic side panels. I then put on BLO kind of thickly on, let sit for 30 mins then with my bare fingers I worked in the oil and removed excess with soft cloth. I let set over night and repeated. Re-assemble Pulsar. I am told now that I have it done that I can just put a little on my fingers and work in without disassembly.
I read everywhere warnings about BLO rags need to be discarded because they are susceptible to spontaneous combustion.

Did you get the Huntsman XL in .25 Cal?

Yes the walnut looks better with the boiled linseed oil and like yourself, appreciate how easy it is to maintain an oiled wood finish. Nice looking furniture, a much richer color than before.
Also, it's really good that you warned us about the danger of spontaneous combustion of oil-soaked rags as well! I had a car burn down in the parking lot, due to a pile of linseed oil soaked rags accidentally left in the trunk on a warm spring day. I knew I should remove them and put them in a bucket of water, but I forgot! The car was totaled.

Nothing like BLO.
Mike McCuen (airgunstocks.com) highly recommends it.

Glad you posted this M, I have the same thoughts regarding my R5 stock. Kind of bare and dull looking, I want to shine it up but don’t know where to start. Might give the blo a try as I don’t want too shiny either.
