Gamo Varmit Hunter Tune

This is my press/spring compressor.
Trailer jack, two roll bar mounts, a small buckle tie down strap, some cardboard, ear plug waste foam and packaging tape. Oh...And some 3/8" fuel line to cover the muffler clamps holding it together.
After disassembling the power plant, I believed I could compress the spring and pin it by hand. It didn't seem to be under very much pressure. It was! That last half inch may as well have been a mile.
I cleaned with just paper towels so as not to remove all of the original lube. Only a film remains. I lubed sparingly with a drop of Mobil One 0W20 on the seal and a small finger smear of lithium grease on the piston.
I roughed up the deep scoring on the seal with a jewellers file (the same tool I de-burred everything with).
I shimmed the spring/piston and the hat with a Pepsi bottle and I fitted a teflon oil pan drain plug seal between the hat and piston.
I think the hat shim only shims the spring and hat while the rifle is cocked. I'm sure, when it is fired, the shim slides off the hat and into the middle of the spring.
Sorry. No pics.
I was completely engrossed in the project and didn't even think to snap any photos.
One other thing I did (and I hesitate to mention) is remove the lockout bar so that the rifle can be de cocked. Risky, I know, but that was almost a deal breaker for me. I need to be able to de cock.
It was all over in 20 min!
10 Meters while sighting in. Shot from sitting position. Not sure of the dimensions but there are 6 of these targets to a sheet of printer paper.
My 55 Meter test target and BBQ bench rest.
The target is an old tobacco can shoved over a broken limb. I like it because I can hear it.
I also added weight to the hollow stock. A cold chisel with more of that ear plug foam to wad it. The rifle is balanced better then an M14 now. It would have ghost ring sights on it if it were practical. I
am
growing to like the slug gun scope.
Except for the trigger, I am very happy with the way it shoots. No more BOING! And it doesn't feel like a bucket of bolts anymore.
I do notice that I'm picking up some bad habits from that awful trigger so I'll have to address that issue soon.
The one other thing I did notice, when I had it apart, was that the main spring is kind of coiled and not straight at all. It has quite a spiral to it. Not sure what that's about but, now that I feel the Gamo is worthy, I will rebuild it properly with a new spring, seal(s), trigger etc.
Thanks everyone. You don't know how you have helped me but I lurked this board, long before I bought this air rifle.

Something woke me so I'll be up for a while.
Anyway, I wanted to update since I've been shooting this rifle for some months now.
Nothing has changed from the time I put it all back together and sighted it in.
I'm happy with the way it cycles, other then that trigger.
I have added to my "collection" a Crosman Fury that I acquired on the sooper cheap.
I have, bookmarked, a kit from Air Rifle HQ that I think would fit either/both rifles.
One thing that has been bugging me is my decision to eliminate the anti bear trap safety from the Gamo. I saved the blade, screws and spring in a ziplock and I'll be putting it all back like it was.
So I'll be ordering two of those tuning kits and going through both rifles. I like the soda bottle spring shims and I want to compare the feel of that, to the tar on spring old school tune.
I'll do one tune at a time so I can compare.
I'll update when I get around to that.
