I kinda feel like if you can learn to shoot a springer very well and do it consistently minute to minute, day to day then you have pretty much mastered the air rifle. lol Tune em up asap to make em quiet and accurate and keep em well maintained and they're good to go. They are a challenge and sometimes a pain in the arse so if you're short on patience, discipline and or don't want the challenge that comes with shooting a springer well then pcp's are probably perfect for you. Personally, I want a pcp for hunting/pesting, MUCH easier to shoot accurately and precisely offhand or utilizing a bipod, also the lack of loudness keeps the critters in place. For general target shooting or plinking around though, it's springers all day for me.

How did I miss this awesome thread? It covers so many of the reasons I've gotten into airgunning with some passion as of late. I'd been using .22lrs for hunting a lot last fall, when I started upgrading an airgun for pesting around suburbia. Then I realized how useful and great airguns are -quiet, accurate, powerful, self contained powerplant. They just grabbed my attention the last few months because they're so interesting. I've bought 4 pumpers and a CO2 gun in the past couple months, but I've always been on the fence about the breakbarrels. Considered a B3, may get one eventually...
But it's true, with headshots, you really don't need more than 6-10 fpe. I'm just having a lot of fun with them right now, and can't seem to get out of the pumper mindset. Simple, self-contained, durable, perfect?
But it seems like Crosman is the only company I'd buy this type from, and they're almost dropping the ball in some durability respects.
And yes, there should be "Survival" section to the forum.
(disclaimer, I don't own a springer.) but the Benjamin NP ram one looks cool.
