Some of those quotations are funny.  Some are cute.  But some, to me, really represent what it means to be a Marine.  Here's two that have been quoted, misquoted and, until now, omitted -

"Retreat, *(&^ we just got here!" ~ Captain Lloyd Williams, USMC at the Battle of Belleau Wood WWI

C'mon you sons-of-female dogs, do you want to live forever!" ~ GySgt Dan Daley at the Battle of Belleau Wood WWI

When the Germans were advancing on Belleau Wood, the Marines arriving to reinforce the French were informed that the position was hopeless and they had best follow the French example and beat a hasty retreat.  The first quotation was in response to that advice.  During the ensuing battle, the Marines gave the Germans a demonstration of marksmanship using the "new" 1903 Springfield.  After the encounter, the German commander commented that he simply could not believe they were taking casualties at EIGHT HUNDRED YARDS.

"The German troops were clear of the woods. On they came with closed ranks in four lines. One looked at them with almost a friendly interest. No particular hate or fear ... The fingers bit into the rifle. "Hold your fire!" ... The next I recall is firing. Firing. Firing. My fingers were tearing greedily at more ammunition, then the instinct of the hunter restrained me. I began to fire slower, looking for my mark, making sure they hit. The Huns now appeared to be almost on top of us and then, all of a sudden, there was nothing more to aim at. A few scattered groups with hands held up, racing for our lines and shouting, "Kamerad! Kamerad!" From At Bealleau Wood by Robert B. Asprey.

This information supplied courtesy of the United States Navy.  Really, it takes a SWABBIE to remind you of this???  :D ;D :D ;D

Mike is there a problem with his quote? "I watched Marines die face down in the mud protecting freedom ~Col. Oliver North, 2001"

"Oli, is a Fine Man and Fine Marine". If you feel there is anything quoted here by him and you feel it is Disrespectful in any way I will remove it. I would have been happy to have served with him.
