2014 Nationals Report

Ok, not so much a report as just a still newbs perspective. There will be plenty of pics and detailed posts on the winners coming from others. I just want to give my view. What a match. First Nationals I've attended and only the second Grand Prix event. Weather was pretty much as predicted with a cool windy Saturday and even cooler but calm Sunday. The course shot pretty much as we all wanted. Tough but fair with every type of shot one could imagine.
Personally I shot lousy. But I learned some valuable lessons. Those I'll save for another post. For now I just want to give kudos to all those involved. The city of Heflin, AL embraced and supported this event to the highest level and would not have been possible without them, and our club match director Paul's relationship with the city officials is a big reason for this. The Atlanta FT club really organized and executed a near flawless event. These gentlemen and wife are tireless workers and as with the city this event would not have gone off without them. And then there is the devil from Huntsville. Brad Troyer designed a course that even had world class shooters muttering from time to time. Finally, my personal thanks to those guys that hung around after the match to help us teardown.
This was a great experience and I encourage all FT shooters to do whatever you can to get to the biggest matches you can. The bigger the match the more opportunities to learn and make friends.
Next year Nationals is in North Carolina and I fully plan to be there.
For now, the Tennessee State Championship is in 1 month at the INVICTA club in Minor Hill, TN. One month to practice what I learned.
PS, some kid going by the name Tyler somehow managed to take home a trophy. Just wish I could figure out who he is

Hi Mike,
I looked around and was not able to find results for the match. Do you know where they might be found?

Ken was pretty wiped out a hectic week. Results will be coming soon. Greg won WFTF PCP and high match score 110, Doug Miller won Open PCP, Paul Bishop won WFTF Piston, Charles Garvey won Hunter PCP. Dottie was high lady and 3rd Open, Roz was top senior. That's all I remember.

Thanks for the shout out Mike. It was great to meet you!
The course was tough, especially with the wind on day one. There were plenty of shots where I was chasing my tail a bit. Overall, I hit my personal goal that I set before the match. But I definitely missed a bunch of shots that I know I shouldn't have. Particularly the shoot off but that's a different story.
Brad designed what is easily the most all encompassing course I have ever shot. Tough technical shots with small kills and distance shots where the wind had to be played to perfection. The land in Heflin is super conducive to having every different aspect of FT included in the course. You have open areas where wind swirls, you can have shots from light to dark, uphill, downhill, stupid tree shots that you have to lay on your back to find in the scope LOL. It was an amazing experience and I will definitely be back there if they host a regional match next year.
I might make it down to TN for the state match, after all, I have a title to defend!

John, Look forward to meeting you there. Made some butt plate and cheek riser adjustments to my EV2 and have started working hard on the off-hand shots.
