Guy brought it in to the shop. Said his grandfather bought it for him when he was 10 or 12 or 14 years old. He's now 84, you do the math. He refinished the stock a few years back, but it wouldn't pump up any longer so he brought it in for a re-seal. Said that it had been re-sealed once before. The black on the metal he also did, and plans to re-do when he gets the gun back. Amazing condition for a gun of that era. Single owner is unusual. Cool back story. Cool what walks in the door sometimes.

Wow, That is easily the nicest wood I have seen on a 312 / 317.
I can not imagine what it's like having a gun from his youth over 70 years ago.
Obviously it has no serial numbers to share... right?

They might sound like a lot of work till you realize you only need 3-4 pumps for plinking.

Older example (no 'Bar-V) rear sight.
Nice grain on that Missouri walnut.

I just love the hand-rub look to it. Wonder how many of these are hidden under a worn, chipped, peeling or abused facade?

My, " Tootsie Roll" isn't that old, but you're right about the wood eeler! My 760v1's butt stock went from this from the factory as I bought it new;
To this, far left, when I sanded it & applied 2 coats of Minwax #224, " special Walnut", and a few coats of B/C Tru-Oil;

Now that is something to be proud of. No amount of money could ever replace a thing of beauty like that.

Wow...Just looking at it the good childhood memories come rushing back: The sound it made when you pumped it. The feel of the tootsie roll in your hand when you pumped it. The feel of the stock between your legs and the barrel against your chest as you pulled the tootsie roll in toward you to pump it. How the front sight dug in to your chest as the pumps got harder! Thanks for posting the pictures!

Yeah, all give so many memories that make the heart grow fonder of them. Is it any wonder we collect and restore them?!
