Vintage Airguns - Restore or Not??

I did a few searches for variations of 'restoration' and maybe that was not the best keyword as all I found were pages and pages of people who...did restorations
I was a gifted a very nice shooting Crosman 102 clickless. It shoots really well but the black paint on the barrel and breech is in poor shape with many scratches and worn through areas. The wood stock is in very good shape and the clickless rubber hammer is rather poor condition but intact.
I love restoring things, I have done a lot of old tools and axes and a few knives and a couple of guns in the past and I am not half bad at it. I do not ever intend to sell this gun due to its history and how it came to me and I would prefer to restore it, but the history buff in me says leave it alone for the historical and collector value. But does collector value really mean anything if you are never going to sell it? Rock and a hard place. What do you vintage gun nuts think? Does a good restoration hurt or help or make no difference in the value of an old gun.
It's not like 102's are exactly rare. But they sure aren't making any more of them either.

It's your gun and if you don't intend to sell you can do what you wish with it.
if it was my gun and it shot well, I'd leave well enough alone and not risk buggering something up just to make it look nicer. but that's me and not you.
do what makes you happy

What Flint said. If the cosmetics is of interest to you, and you enjoy making it look good, go for it. If not, don't. The receiver, barrel and tube are pretty easy to spray with something like Duracoat and can look nice, and you don't have to get into the valving since it already shoots good.

They're yours to enjoy as you wish, so fix 'em up!
I won't be able to hear the collector's screams from here, anyway...
Pics before and after would be nice.
Ride on,

Make it nice as you want... Not like it's the Hope Diamond.

I had a Sheridan model B dura-coated once.
Refinish if your looking to have a nice gun and not worried about reselling it later.

Hey its real simple.
Will YOU get more enjoyment out of it restored?
If so then do it. If not then leave it alone.
It's all about YOU!!
