The Daisy 499B was the greatest Christmas present that I ever received. I spent hours looking at the sears catalogue page showing the bewildering choices of air rifles available. The all looked so good that I did not even care which one I got. When charismas morning came around, I was crestfallen not to see a long narrow package under the tree. When you are a little kid your possessions are limited to what you got for Christmas, your birthday or maybe selling Burpie seeds door to door in hopes of winning enough points to get a prize from their catalogue. So there I was on charismas morning with a sinking feeling in my stomach until I open a very heavy box that contained a daisy treasure trove of BB’s. My heart raced and I began to hope that this was not some cruel joke. Sure enough, my dad came out of the back room with the long narrow package containing the BB gun you see below. It’s not much to look at now, but to a little kid. This represented POWER and responsibility, two concepts that are hard to be trusted with as a kid and definitely a big part of growing up.
I always liked the medallion on the stock with the idealistic image of the father and son. My dad did not shoot with me very often, but then it’s hard to live up to the image given to us by advertisers and I do appreciate the time he did spend with me.

That one's a treasure for sure, take care of it. You can't go out and buy a gun filled with memories like the one you have there.

it is beautiful, and being that it is the one you got that christmas, it makes it the most beautiful gun you probably own. mine was the crosman air17. many pellets and bbs shared with my dad... unfortunately it met a cruel end under my unappreciative little brother's hands... i found it in my brother's closet, stock hacksawed and handle cut off as well... See, that rifle made me join the US ARMY... I still remember when i was assigned my m16... In one of the most miserable places in the world (boot camp) the image and memories rekindled gave me solace enough to finish my enlistment proudly. my misguided sibling seems to appreciate the crude and harsh lines of the sawed off shotguns better than the slim, practical and purposeful lines of our national battle rifle...
By the way... that rifle you have is not cheap... a new one will set you back about 150 bucks... and yes, it is undoubtebly the most accurate BB gun around. Take good care of her.
