Crosman 1400 Worked, Now It Doesn't

I replaced all the seals in the Crosman 1400 and it worked very well and then I took the forearm off and suddenly it decided to not pump up.
I took it apart again and replaced all the seals again and then when it pumps, I get a low grade pssst around the breech when pulling the trigger. I am hard of hearing and can't ascertain exactly where the air is released. The breech seal is the refrigerator vinyl tubing. I did buy a new roll of tubing to have on hand but there is a difference in the wall thickness because the .17 is too thin walled. Anyone have an idea before I give the Crosman to my grandson?? I know overall I've taken this Crosman apart at least eight times.

Just a random guess but if your cut the tube too long and squeeze it, you close up the ID.

When it worked, how many pumps were you using and what was the velocity. Need this info to know if the gun was healthy when it worked. If all you did was remove the pump arm, and not the barrel, and put the pump arm bac on and it wouldn't pump. There's some other problem. Google Crosman 1400 exploded view, you can enlarge the diagram to see if all the parts are in right.

As noted by avator above - If the transfer port seal is tangled up or not fully aligned with the valve and barrel, that could cause the 'pssst' sound as air can't pass through and just escapes around the seal.

I didn't change the tube, I used the one that was on the Crosman...as many as reassembling it 8 times. As when it was working properly, I would pump it 7 times and it would shoot a hole through a vegetable can. I'm thinking it could be the trigger assembly since early on, the rifle would discharge when pumped. I adjusted the trigger with the adjusting screw and alleviated that but still it could be a worn trigger assembly...maybe?? Te reson I didn't change the tube is becasue I tried with the thin walled tubing and it failed so I kept the old vinyl tube and used it multiple times.

If you've had the gun apart pay particular attention to the orientation of the collar circled in red in the picture attached here. There is an offset hole and it needs to be set forward.

Also, the black piece on the back of the valve that houses the poppet, needs to be on right so the transfer port hole is centered in the compression tube.

Did you put a new quad seal in what looks to be part # 140-079? That little seal controls everything that goes on in the gun

Sorry I haven;t replied until now but I was out of town.
avator: The small tube plug is facing the correct way, small hoe forward.
JPSAXNC: I pumped it up 7 times and don't know the velocity but it would punch a hole in a vegetable can.
JPSAXNC: I put 2 new quad seals in and with the soap test, it does not leak at the barrel.
eeler1: The bevel is toward the rear as on the illustration. And I have to study the hammer to see how if any that it is worn.
What I found today was if I mess with the adjustment screw on the trigger assembly, I find that if it is screwed out the puff comes from the rear near the trigger assemble and if I screw it in nearly all the way, the puff comes out the end of the barrel. I cleaned and oiled the trigger assembly previously but I think it is due another review.

I took the trigger assembly off of another 1400 and out it on the offending 1400 and there was no change, a puff from around the trigger assembly. I pu the old trigger assembly back on the 1400, pump it 7 times and dipped it in a sink of water and the puff comes out of where the sear block is situated.
I again took the 1400 apart dried it out and set it aside. I'm tired of messing with it!

I'll try again, I took the trigger assembly off the 1400, put a small dowel piece where the trigger rests, pumped up the rifle and pssst. So apparently it sint; the trigger assembly. I changed all the seals, oiled everything down and still a puzzle. I cannot figure out where the psst is coming from or rather why it is releasing air in that area. Any ideas???
One thing that I figured out and maybe it'll help otehrs is that if you have a retaining screw missing that secure the trigger assembly to the compression tube, one of those screws on an electrical plug in (where the wires are secured) will fit nearly perfectly. The threads are exact.

Sam, I put a new seal around the valve cap, as previously mentioned, it was working good and then I decided I didn't like the way the forearm fit so I worked on that nd pecked with a small hammer the roll pin (130-030) and bingo! Didn't pump up again. I put new seals throughout te air rifle with the exception ofthe Quad seal.

One problem with the 140/1400 is the steel tube will corrode right where the valve cap o-ring has to seal. If the gun pumps up then that's not the problem, if the gun won't take air then that could be it.
