Title: Mid-Missouri 10 meter
Post by: Bladeswitcher on April 26, 2016, 12:30:52 PM
A few of us Jefferson City airgun nuts have been getting together on Tuesday nights for some informal 10 meter shooting. And when I say informal, I mean INFORMAL. Nobody keeps score but we do glance at each other targets.

There is a small indoor archery range in Holts Summit (5 miles north of Jefferson City). They have launched an airgun program for little kids on Friday nights. The kids shoot some cheap Crosman/Gamo type break barrel airgun (approx. 500 fps). Anyway, the range owner is thinking along airgun lines so she's sympathetic to us old guys with our pellet rifles.

For the past three weeks we've showed up on Tuesday night. We only shoot about an hour because the owner is staying late to accommodate us. We bring our own pellet traps and mount them at eye level on tripods (the range has cardboard box pellet traps but they're too low and we don't want to shoot them up). We started with four guys and I believe we had six shooters last week. We've been shooting rifles off-hand at five-bull 10-meter rifle targets. We shoot five shots at one bull and then walk down to check our targets and compare. We've managed to get in about 50 shots in the hour allotted. Some of us have also shot 25 on the first five-bull target and then spent the rest of the time shooting air pistol. Again, it's informal. No rules. Do what you want.

Air rifles used have included a couple of HW55 rifles, a FWB300s, an LGR, a Daisy/Avanti 853 and a couple of cheap Crosmans. Pistols have included a P1, a Baikal and a couple of FWBs.

I guess this is going to be a regular thing. We plan on doing it again tonight, anyway. We'll start at 7 and finish up right around 8 p.m. Cost is $5 per shooter.

BTW, last week we had a guy show up just to watch because he was curious. We didn't let him leave without putting a couple guns in his hands and letting him shoot some, though.

Contact me if you want more information. Or just show up at Orion Archery in Holts Summit at 7 p.m. Tuesday nights.

That's great! I have reached out to a local archery range about using their space for an FT shoot but haven't heard back.  If I find myself travelling through the area on Tuesday I will bring projectile flinging devices.

Would Love to come up and shoot with you fellow's... unfortunately, Jefferson City / Holts Summit is a bit of a drive for a One hour shoot for my wife & I.   :(       We did drive up to the Josephville (N. of Wentzville) to the gun shop there, where they have a 10M shoot (indoors, but also have an outdoor range for rimfire, etc.) every Friday morning from 9am til noon(ish).... however, in my wife & I's "honor" they decided to have a second shoot on Sat. morning, just because we drove so far to shoot with them.... great bunch of guys up there (and some of their wives shoot, as well).

If you ever would be interested in joining them for a shoot... Shane's shop number is (636) - 332 - 5450.   Shane Seals is the owner, and it's FREE... usually about 10 - 16 guys show up,  and his wife who works in the office... is a pretty darn good shot, herself.    There was another guy there when we were there, who came back for the Saturday shoot and brought his son and wife... his wife was making multi shot - single holes, with ease.

They always have a Big box of donuts and coffee on hand...... and they also have an Alaskan Malmute, named "Oshi".... watch your hand, if there's a donut in it !!.... he's not bashful about relieving your hand of any donuts.... (he's careful though, about Only taking the donut, and leaving your hand & fingers in tact.).   ;D

Sorry for the "rabbit trail".... But, if you (or your buds, from Jefferson C.) can make it up to the Josephville Gun Shop on Friday mornings... they'd love to have more new guys show up.... give Shane a call... wouldn't be much of a drive from where you are,  it took my wife & I the better part of 5 hrs... one way to get there, but it was really worth it... great folks up there, and hope to return before too long.

I understand your situation and only having an hour to shoot.... and it's sure better than nothing,  and IF it somehow ever works out that it opens up to a 2 or 3 hour shoot (or More ;D)... keep us posted, we would be willing to drive the distance there,  for that.... mean while, ENJOY !  ;)

Thanks,
Jim

PS:Have you been able to get any of those fine German airguns, into the hands of the lady (owner?) who's been letting you shoot there, ??

I just wanted to say hey to bladeswitcher,
I stopped by Bob's shop, in Jefferson City MO, today. I got to meet and talk airguns witch Bob and W.D.  I highly suggest you stop in and say hi if you're ever in the area. Bob has a real nice shop and he and W.D. Couldn't be any nicer. Also, Bob stocks several JSB pellets for sale and has several  nice German springers behind the counter for sale. It's good to meet a couple more Missouri air gunners.

Our sport is growing and its up to us to keep it that way.

Sorry if I overstayed my welcome Bob, it's hard to leave good company,

Higgs

Thanks for the kind words.  We shot again last night, great time had by all and as usual did a little gun sharing.  Good way to try something new without the expense.
