As many of you already know, Betty Lou and I took over our good friend, Killer's place after he went to the nursing home a little over a year ago. Killer's family had been on the property for many years. His father and grandfather before him farmed this land. Much of it had been sold off except for the 5 acres we now live on.
Killer spent the last couple years at home in a hospital bed in his living room depending on vagabonds and hang arounds to tend to him. The man has a HUGE heart. These drifter types took great advantage of his kindness. We ran the last of them off after he went to the nursing home.
Betty Lou and I have spent the last year working and making the place our own. There are 5 structures on the property and some of you have followed the journey through 4 of them.... the mobile home, the barn, the tool shed and the bar/mancave.
The final structure was saved until last for a couple reasons. One being that the other structure were farther up the priority list the other is... it was a scary place.
Back in the day it was Killer's 'playroom' and I can only imagine the games that were played. It spent the last several years sealed off except for the occasional "open the door and toss some junk in".
Contents consisted of a complete hot tub that was still full of the water from the last time it function. A built in wooden day bed type feature with hidden storage below. A standing freezer that I was terrified to open (I originally thought this was a fridge until I moved it out today). A large window ac unit. And just about anything else you can, or cannot, imagine.
Oh yes, and the most recent tenants..... SNAKES !!! Lots of snakes. It literally looked like someone decorated the place with shedded skins. BIG SKINS !!
The good news is, I haven't seen any live ones and even the rodents appear to been afraid to go in there.
In the picture below you can see the Red Shed behind the mobile home. This picture was taken when we first came to the property and all that you see has been cleaned up and hauled away.

I recently retired and after spending some time recovering from a bad bout of shingles the time came to attack the Red Shed.
The building has running water, a propane wall heating unit that is fueled by the propane seen in the picture. It also has electric wiring and outlets throughout as well as fluorescent over head lights. However, the switch did not turn on the lights so I assumed the power to the building had been disconnected.
A week ago I began the task of cleaning out the Red Shed.
This morning I hauled the last of the contents out... the fridge and the ac unit. I did find a guy that wants the hot tub and he is coming to remove it tomorrow. I already drained it with a sump pump.

The next thing on my list was the electric. My plan was to track down the supply and see what it would take to reconnect it. I had been using a halogen work light stand with a power cord from my tool shed.
I opened the cover on the main box on the pole and could barely see the labels scratched in the metal. One appeared to read ShedHT. I switch it on half expecting it to kick the breaker.... nothing. The lights would not switch on.
Ok, I am not a fan of electric shock so I took the precaution to try an outlet before messing with things. I plugged the halogen light into a wall outlet and BOOYA !!! We have power to the Red Shed.
I now assume the bulbs or ballasts are bad in the over head lights. No problem, lights are cheap enough to replace. I'll check them for power before I proceed.

Once the hot tub is gone tomorrow the setup will begin. First on the list will be work benches and shelving. Then I can begin moving in tools and stuff that are out of place in the other buildings. I have shop air compressors, bench grinder, small mig welder, chop saw w/stand and many other things to make it a functioning shop for lots of projects I have planned. It's even within range to pick up wireless internet from the house for 'how to' videos on you tube and such.

Bill, your post brings to mind an old Cajun saying from my youth. When tackling a project like what you are doing, some may have said to you: fait courage. In American english, it means 'be brave'.
So, my friend, FAIT COURAGE!

Mike.... "In for a penny, in for a pound".
I have reached the point where I'm comfortable not wearing the mask.
Also in the picture you can see the top of the man door in the gable end. Then there was a window on either side of the building. I say 'was' because the one one the side you can see is no longer there. I took it out and cut a 7' wide opening and hung a vinyl roll up door. Now I can store and work on the atvs and z turn mower.

Good luck! I was unable to do anything for several years due to health problems. It's been a struggle trying to catch up with everything that was left undone.
One day at a time, and even small improvements add up!

Thanks Ken...
as Betty Lou says... we have the rest of our lives.. no sense in rushing through it.
For example..
This morning I maneuvered that freezer out of the building then sat down and let the heart rate slow and slight dizzy to go away. Then I tackled the ac unit... and so on.
I still have nerve damage to my thumb and a couple fingers from the shingles but it's slowly getting better. It's a tingly feeling and sends jolts every now and then. I've been told it could take up to a year to completely go away.

That is the procedure I followed when my Judy and I had remodeled the Louisiana home in '95. Worked great!

Funny you say that Jeff...
There is only one red switch throw in that box and guess what it is?.... the Red Shed. I should have known. The rest of them are labeled including the one we recently put in for the 220 kitchen range and the 120 to the small tool shed.
That 100 amp service also feed a 30 amp box in the house. That box is only for lights and outlets. All the appliances and water heater run for the 100 amp box. The bar and the barn are both on different accounts. I have 3 accounts for this place. As for water, the bar has it's own account and the rest of the place is together on another.

If there's only one feed to the whole shed?
I'd check the breaker to see what is being thrown to it.
Then I'd get a small breaker box and wire it inside the shed to divide the power.
Say a 6 circuit box.
North wall outlets, South wall, etc.
Say that breaker is a 20 Amp. You could burn up equipment that should trip a 15 AMP breaker and possibly risk a fire!

I'll have my buddy, John take a look at it. He wired the small shed and ran the 220 to the kitchen range for us. He does the wiring for the Hyundai plant I retired from.

Meanwhile the guy I gave the hot tub to called last evening and asked if he could come Sunday. He had trouble rounding up help for today. Considering it's a holiday weekend I don't have an issue with that. Folks want to be with family.
I'll just drag the trailer back out of the barn and start loading up stuff for another landfill run. This trip will be larger items... old appliances and stuff.
