Does anyone have an 880 and an 853 who might be able to tell me if an 880 frame/action will fit in a 853 stock? My question is if the pump pivot pin will extend beyond the end of the stock. It might be worth trying to install an 880 in a 853 stock and replace the receiver halfs with the 853 top hat.

i am somewhat dubious as the receivers on the 880 hold the bolt in position.
The 880 frame is smaller than that of the 853 cuz the pumps are different sizes.
I have a spare 850 stock around here somewhere.
If I get a chance, I'll give it a look-see......

You can lead a man to water, but you can't keep him from urinating in it.

I pulled an 853 apart and can offer the following conclusion: Definite MAYBE.
The pump frame will fit into the 853 stock, at least width and lengthwise.
A later model frame w/o the forearm side clips will be needed, or at least the side clips removed.
I think the pump arm will close, but not sure if the cross-brace midway down the length where the cross screw goes will require dealing with.
The bolt carrier dimensions are fairly close, but not sure if the 880 bolt will align with the barrel properly. May need to be shimmed.
Other than that, you are on your own!
I am anxious to keep an eye on your progress, pilgrim.

Sweet!!!
Thanks Ron, I may order one and tinker. I have an 853 "hat" that I have cut to fit over a 880/1977 new model valve body. I may add this to the tinker que.
