A couple of years ago, I made it a mission to learn how to sharpen my knives. I've since gotten to the point of being able to put on a decent sharp edge. I'm no where at the level of someone who wet sand with multiple $500 sharpening stones, but I can get it plenty sharp for my needs.
Electric knives are great if you are too lazy to keep your knives sharp, which I have been more than once.

I have used my electric knives (plural) to carve more Thanks-giving turkeys, Christmas hams, and Prime Rib than your can shake a stick at! Last week alone we used mine to carve 6 whole turkeys at the Lodge.. The reason for two is I had to slice 12 whole prime ribs one night!Imagine doing THAT with a butcher knife!
