"Bob and Lloyds Workshop" / Re: Changing My Thinking About Slugs« Last post by rsterne on Today at 01:51:25 PM »Interesting point, Scott.... I'm not so sure pushing beyond Mach 1 is a great idea, but I can see the advantage to using the steeper slope on the drag coefficient to push the downrange velocities into a tighter range, that makes sense.... I assume the numbers you gave for vertical dispersion are calculated, not measured?.... Please correct me if I am mistaken.... The farther the target, the higher the ideal muzzle velocity for minimum wind drift as well, within limits, and assuming the crosswind component is a constant all the way along the trajectory.... Otherwise, the part of the travel with the greatest wind velocity will have the greatest affect on the drift, especially if that is near the muzzle, when the velocities are further into the high drag zone....
Tuning with a movable (threaded) muzzle weight when shooting at constant range can change the release angle of the slug such that the faster slugs are shot on a slightly lower trajectory due to barrel harmonics.... A small change in the position of the weight can tighten groups significantly.... I understand this is used quite a bit by .22LR competitors.... You tune so that the slowest rounds are released just before the barrel reaches the top of its oscillation, and of course for optimum results the barrel must be indexed to oscillate as close to the vertical plane as possible.... The example I made (but have not tested) uses 28 TPI threads, which gives 0.003" movement per "hour" on the index marks (0.036" per turn).... The setscrew in the brass weight presses a Delrin ball against the threads to prevent it from "self-adjusting".... It threads onto the muzzle with standard 1/2"-20 threads, against a shoulder (actually the end of the CF outer tube).... Bob 22

If PCP is not a choice, then...... I think you were on the right track with the chemically fired arm. If you can find them, cb caps make no more noise than a high powered springer. (BB caps are even quieter) Neither will exit even a small coon. 23
Back Room / Re: Good morning! Are you up yet? What's your plans for today?« Last post by Insanity on Today at 01:45:50 PM »Up late and secured and relocated the kids to my house for the afternoon.
I have been fully cleared to return to work but the safety guy is being a jackass. I can read between the lines. We lost 7 quarries while I was off so work is slow... If he wants to keep it up there are plenty of places looking to hire a guy with a class B CDL with manual, air break and tanker. Hazmat is easy to add with a test at the DMV. Places like a direct competitor is hiring and looking for a magazine manager. 24

That bottom image would roughly fit inside the segments I'm using in my setup. Good seed for flow theorizing.

Bargain Gate / Re: Gamo coyote .177 @ Gamo USA for $289« Last post by Antwuan Maxx on Today at 01:22:04 PM »When the deal for the .22 was posted a few days ago, I said if it was in .177 I would be all over it. Then when I saw the deal posted for the .177, I was a little hesitant because I wanted to unload the Umarex Origin 22 I posted in classifieds ($200 shipped) before purchasing my next PCP. So for the past 24 hours I slowly watched as half of the available inventory was sold away, hoping to complete the sell of the Origin in the mean time. Well, I could no longer hold out, so I went and ordered one before they were no longer available. As previously stated, absolutely love my Urban and always wanted a little brother for it. So looks like I finally have it, though I would have preferred a synthetic stock. I plan to swap the larger cylinder of the Coyote to the Urban and vice versa. Can't wait.

German AirGun Gate / Re: HW Peep Sight System Question« Last post by Cslinger on Today at 01:14:44 PM »I’ve used the Williams and they work but, at least for me, are a little fragile feeling. I’ve stripped screws with them.
I have several Air Force Adaptive rear sights on Weihrauch rifles and have been very happy with them. I have 1 Gehman compact on an HW35e that has done me well also. All are/were used with the stock front sight/apertures. Here are some pictures of the sights on the guns. I don’t have any of the Williams handy. 28
Vintage Air Gun Gate / Re: BSA s 20 help« Last post by oldair on Today at 01:14:17 PM »If you search "BSF S20 rear sight" you can get some images:
https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=bsf+s20+rear+sight&qpvt=bsf+s20+rear+sight&form=IGRE&first=1 Note you'll see there were two sight versions - a simpler one for the 'standard' S20, and a more elaborate one for the 'match' version. It looks like Chambers in the UK has some parts for the 'match' sight: https://twchambers.co.uk/airgun-spares/bavaria-bsf-wischo/bsf-s20-match/ 29
German AirGun Gate / Re: I have read the HW50 .177 vs .22 Thread Until My Eyes Crossed!« Last post by Cslinger on Today at 01:09:11 PM »I don’t have an HW50, probably the only HW I don’t have but
for 50 yard paper punching .177. I just feel like the flatter trajectory is helpful. I will say that .22 has a more “pleasant” shot cycle in general and my .22’s are certainly accurate enough (at least to my unskilled standards ). 30
