Title: JTS Airacuda .25 Caliber: An introduction
Post by: Hajimoto on February 12, 2022, 03:20:14 PM
Here is the JTS Airacuda in .25 caliber. The Airacuda is an unregulated PCP that ships with two 10 shot all-metal rotary magazines which load from the left-hand side.
The rifle has a beautiful hardwood stock which is very comfortable. It has a transfer port adjustment knob to throttle things down or up a tad is very easy.
The Airacuda comes with side lever cocking so the ease of racking in the round is effortless.
The PCP likes to start at 2900-2800 PSI (19MPa) to help flatten the bell curve.

Below are a series of photos that help convey the level of dopeness these PCP's have. I am thoroughly impressed.

The receiver looks a lot like my sentry's 705.

What's the weight? Full of air, no scope.

I really love the looks of this rifle! The attention to detail is superb and the features like the brass chamber (not great on terminology), lever action, all metal magazines, the shrouded and banded barrel, and that beautiful stock are not normally found on rifles costing twice as much. If it were two pounds lighter I would be selling air rifles to make room for it. I also like to see some kind of iron sights as standard, but that can be fixed. This in .22 would be a great rifle to pair with my NOE 19 grain hunter pellet mold.

Hajimoto, is this an un-choked pre-production version? It's probably been beat to death at this point, but I can't remember. I do have a .25 NOE 22 grain wadcutter mold, but not sure how it would do at the higher velocities this rifle is capable of.

As far as I know, all preproduction models other than one are all choked and the production models will all be choked as well.

I talked on the phone with Mike M from FDAR and he said that the JTS guns are much different than the Xisico Sentry's are, there are a few things that are very similar.  I asked about the valves in them and he said they're nothing alike basically.  He said it would probably be June/July before he has them for sale on his site.  I am thinking seriously about getting the regulated version in .22.  Still I'm very curious about the unregulated one in this thread as well.  Haj I'll be very much looking forward to any videos you might be doing about teardown/assembly of these guns because I've always liked your previous video's doing the same with other guns.

Wayne... I think that video would better serve us if it was done on a production model and not a prototype.

I guess that I should have stipulated that in my reply because I really wasn't expecting a video of a prototype anyway, that's usually how Haj does those videos.

I just pre ordered a Max in .22 and am very close to ordering a Cuda in.25 for hunting. My only concern is the power adjuster. I can’t help but imagine this causing a premature leak if one adjusted it much. I have no experience with an adjustable port.

The only time pressure is on the port is when the valve is opened during the shot cycle. The is no constant pressure on the port. The port adjustment only restricts the air flow through the post during the shot cycle. A leaky port seal will only affect applied power to the pellet because some will leak out of the seal.

Yep,I just imagine a wheel with holes turning against two o-rings. I guess just find what you want as part of your tune and leave it alone. I already took a chance ordering a Max may as well go for broke and pre order a Cuda.

If I were to own one it would be the Cuda Standard in .30 cal.
At this point I really can't justify adding another caliber gun (it would be my first and only .30).
All my needs are filled with the 4 calibers I have.... .177, .20, .22 and .25.
If I shoot each one of the guns I own one per day it would take me more than 3 months to shoot them all...  :o ::) :-\
If I were going to go any bigger in bore it would most likely be .45 or higher... go big or stay home. I really don't have a use for anything that big other than the novelty of owning one. I have powder burners to handle that task if it presents itself.  ;) :-X

Looking at the JTS Airacuda in .25 caliber to be my first .25cal. My Air Venturi Avenger, Umarex Gauntlet 2, DAR Gen3, and my two bullpups are .22cal. Thinking I need one gun with a little more knock down power.

There's going to be a .30 now?

Ya, I don’t want to get too off topic but if There was a .30 Cuda standard I would have already ordered it. I am on the cusp of ordering a Origin .25. My Origin .22 has served  me very well and the .25 would be a little more for hunting.

Well folks I'm weak, just pre ordered a standard Cuda in .25. I swore after my DAR Gen 2 adventure to never again be a buyer of a newly released air gun but these JTS rifles are too tempting. I'll have a Max in .22 and a standard in .25, wish me luck.

This is exactly why I don't pre-order anything.
Life has enough disappointments and pitfalls without creating more for myself.
Anyone who has admitted standing by the door/window waiting on a delivery truck knows all about it.
It's like waiting for 5:00pm on Friday and finding out at 4:30pm that you have to work until midnight.
Like a kid waiting on a Santa Claus that never comes.

If push backs don't affect you then you are a better man than I... congrats.

I got tired of the delays and had Pyramid refund my money. Got a Origin .25 (on sale from Umarexusa.com for 283.00 with shipping) to play with. I will revisit these JTS rifles later and likely purchase one from Mike Mellick. If JTS had the Max in a stock like the standard my decision would be easy.

I have zero experience with adjustable transfer ports. If dialed down will it effect poppet dwell time and save air in the tank or just waste air ? Are there issues with leakage during the shot cycle ? Seems to me that it would keep the poppet open longer.

All I know is I'm still very happy with the performance of my AEA Challenger .22, just aired it up and I'll be in the woods with it at 7AM for opening day of squirrel season, they're still $359 at the pellet shop for one heck of a deal on a really nice powerful hunter.  Some guys are putting the regulator on them but in reality I see it as a waste of money for a good hunting gun.

It's right at the top with all my squirrel guns,  very accurate with more power than I really need but to be honest when I'm out with it if I see a Ghog before he sees me he's in trouble, already got a couple of them with it this year 8)
I've had it for a little over 11 months now and trouble free and a very flat shooter indeed with slugs

I am looking to get the max in .25 caliber.  It looks a lot nicer than the AEA Challenger with having a sidelever and a nicer wood stock and I am sure with Travis behind the build it will have plenty of power.  I don't know a whole lot about them yet but typically with just a port adjustment the valve dwell doesn't change.  I am fairly sure one could swap a hammer spring for different results.  No doubt the adjustable port will make for some nice flat unregulated tunes.

Just a friendly reminder that the Max is regulated and the standard which is non regulated has the TP adjustment.
