Around 0730 I headed out to walk some areas I haven't been yet and took the 177 Bottle Bandito loaded with JSB 10.03 slugs. Right as I got into the woods I saw a couple of does. It was pretty bright and I don't think either doe knew I was a human and started stamping and snorting at me. We got into a couple of snorting contests and eventually they bounded off into the woods. It was a pretty amazing thing. I was on the hunt for snowshoe hares, but didn't see any and the snow was too crusty to show their tracks. While I was out I got four red squirrels, which my dogs will appreciate.
This is the last hunt for the Bandito, in current form. Next time it will be wearing a CF sleeved barrel and BR AR conversion kit with side folder. Right now there's a bit of JB weld curing on the grip to retain the nut for the grip screw without driving me crazy trying to get it threaded. I just used a tiny bit so I can file/grind it off if I need to. I got the screw threaded in once, but the poppet had some debris and wouldn't take a fill so it all had to come off.

Oops, posted the same squirrel twice! This guy actually took two shots. I got him just behind the lungs and he started to crawl up a tree. The second shot was through the eye.

Here's the new build (Bandito V2), got it dialed in a zero'd this morning.
There's a doubled 18mm OD CF sleeve ahead of the accessory rail/barrel band that is tensioned down with the BR moderator. There's also a 22x24mm sleeve behind the accessory rail so the drop block is tensioned against the accessory rail as well. It looks a bit goofy being in the back, but it's more functional this way. With everything under tension I'm hoping this is rigid like a PB and can take some bumps in the woods without any change in POI. The ergos with the AR kit are fantastic so far. I've also got an Mlok sling swivel for the front, but for now threading the sling through the slots is working. Bandito V2 is the same weight as bottle bandito V1.3 (configuration from the earlier posts), so I'm pretty happy about that. I think there's a some weight savings in a different AR tube, but not much else I could do to make it any lighter. I'll do a complete review on it after I do some hunting with it.
I put the setup together with the thread protector just to see what it would look like without the mod. It's crazy loud without it, so I'm not sure I'll ever actually use it this way. When I tensioned the barrel I also tightened the barrel band, so I'm hoping i could even swap over to the thread protector and not need to adjust zero if I'm at the range when everything is already loud and I would like a shorter package.

Got another pine squirrel when I walked outside to my "home range" for some target practice. If he didn't have a territory literally next to where I park my tractor I would probably have just let him go.
