Title: Pistol Scope ?????
Post by: TennX on August 30, 2022, 12:26:06 PM
Should I be trying to use a Center Point 2x20 @ 30 yards….its scout mounted on a 392….shooting @ a 3” target I can get in the black outer circle….gun is rested …full disclosure I also have a new LDC…functions fine @ 25’…so Ive adjusted accordingly…Im really wanting the edge 2x27…but funds have gotten tighter with pokeusflation…and has left me no wiggle room on fixed income

Many thanks

On pellet rifles using pistol or scout scope the distance from eye to scopes is everything. I don't know about 392's. I have several scout scopes and a couple of pistol scope mounted on the barrels with a barrel accessory mount and an offset scope mount.

On my Beeman dual cal I have BSA 2-7x32 pistol scopes on the two barrels and it's about 18 inches from my eye to the scope. At full mag I have a clear sight picture. The reason I use them is so I don't have to re-zero when I change barrels. When I had scout scopes on this long gun I had to set mag at 5.5x for a clear sight picture.

I have an A.I.M. 30mm 2-7x42 range finder mildot on my old BSF c60. Eye to scope 14". I have to set on 5x for a clear sight picture. No scope grooves or rail on this gun.

On my Peak B4-2 underlever. I have a A.I.M. 2-7x32 scout scope. Eye to scope 11". Full mag clear sight picture. No scope grooves on this gun.

Most pictures I've seen of 392's with scopes it doesn't look like the eye to scope distance is that much. A scout scope might work and is cheaper than a BSA pistol scope.

I couldn't find on line a BSA 2x27. I did find a 2-7x28 and it said eye relief was 16-20 inches. I believe that would be too close on a 392. Seems I have seen 392 with regular scopes.

Either A.I.M. scout scope I mention would probably work at 8-12 Inches. Optics planet has then for $55-60.

What distance do you think the eye to scope will be.

The bsa is actually 2x7x 28…I just abbreviate….I have a 392s with baker mount….but also like the scout set up on my older 392 (wood)…right now eye relief is 16”….thanks for the heads up …never knew there was actually a Scout Scope…always assumed folks used pistol….the reason I was interested in the edge was magnification..(variable)…

Thanks

16" is like pistil scope eye relief. If you can move it back some, say to 10" a scout scope might work. In general a pistol scope's eye relief is 15-20" give or take. Think arms lenght from head to pistols. Scout scope it's more like 8-12". That's why I went to pistol scopes for my Beeman RS2 dual cal. The long reciever makes it a reach to mount on the barrel.

I had to cut 3" off the front of the stock so the barrel mount would clear the stock. To get the scout scope a little closer I cut 3" including the recoil pad off the back. Later added back and inch with a rubber slip over recoil pad. But the Pistol scope made it all good.

Some of the scout scope are on see thru mounts so I can still use the open sight if POI is within the adjustment and not blocked by the scope or mount.

My Indusrty Brand B4-1 .177 sidelever came with the rear sight a clamp on, on the 11mm grooves. Recently I removed the regular scope, mounted the open sight on the scope grooves and mounted a scout scope on the barrel so I can use either sight system. Why, cause I could. It's a hobby, right.
