As I stated, want to keep a new .177 air rifle under $300. If it comes with a scope, and it is junk, what do you think another scope will run ? I'm sorry, if this topic has been beat to death lol.
thank you
Mike

yes, I looked up scopes in here, but the replies are so old, interested in newer models, and something good. I have bought many scopes for my rifles over the years, and spend the money for Nikons, other decent scopes, if I need to get a different scope for my new airgun, I want a good one that will last.
thanks

Hawke is a good brand and not TOO expensive. If you get a spring gun, get a scope rated for springers.

Springers have recoil just like a firearm. Unlike a firearm they have a second recoil in the reverse direction when the piston contacts the end of the compression. It is this second recoil in the opposite direction which can destroy a scope which is not rated to take it.
I have a Hawke Sport which I have used on several guns (including a Nitro Piston) over the last five years. It supposedly has a lifetime warranty but I've never had a reason to find out if they honor it. I think I have three Hawke scopes but have never experienced a problem with any of them.
The Hawke Sport is a discontinued model. It is now known as the Vantage.

See alot of UTG Scopes, mostly , so far on E-Bay, and the site won't let me put them on here, they don't seem cheap, I see one called UTG 3-9x32 1" Bugbuster AO Rgb Qd rings, $124.32. Is this a quality scope ?
thank you.

UTG's are good for the money. Most are springer rated and the warranty is good. There limitations are sometimes not really bright glass, and the tracking of the clicks are not always consistent. Not good for a shooter that clicks the turrets for the range of every shot- not good. For a backyard shooter or hunter they are great. A lot of people use them in hunter class field target because they are cheap and oversized sidewheels are easy to get.

Cliff is correct. UTG (Leapers) does stand behind their warranty - without question. Save your receipt. I have one of their Tru Strength Platform scopes which I've sent back twice. I do have to pay postage to return it.
I know nothing about Hammers scopes other than they are reputed to be a good value.

Hawke Vantage 4-12x40 AO...nice glass, focuses down a little under 10 yards, mildot reticle. I have 2, both mounted on springers and have never had a problem with either and Hawke's have a lifetime warranty.
This sale is at Dvor...free to join, shipping is like $10, the scope is on sale for $90. The link says IR, the scope isn't, you need to click on the box for the Mildot version, not the HMR17 version:

They also have that Bugbuster, I think it was for maybe $95??
