SVFTC June 2022 Match Report

(1/1)

R1lover:
June's turnout for Field Target competition at the Sacramento Shooting Center near Ione was terrific, as was the weather.

Nineteen shooters showed up, many wearing shorts and short sleeved shirts in anticipation of forecasted light winds and temps in the mid 90's during the middle of the day with 100's predicted for later in the afternoon.  Early arrivals helped set up fifteen lanes, fourteen of which contained two metal knock down targets per lane, two shots per target, at ranges from 10 to 55 yards and a fifteenth lane containing two "bell" targets, also two shots per target, that shooters tried to ring from the off hand and kneeling positions for a total of 60 possible match points.

After signing in shooters enjoyed about 30 minutes to sight-in and practice before the match director held the requisite safety briefing, pairing of shooters, assigning starting lanes and calling the range "hot".  As always, newer shooters to the sport were paired with more experienced shooters who were happy to share tricks for estimating range, reading the wind and setting up to shoot.  While this IS a competition and taken seriously by some shooters, those same "serious" shooters were also here to have fun and hopefully see everyone else do well and have fun too.  Plenty of bantering back and forth went on among everyone as well as sharing where to aim to score hits and where NOT to aim lest you "miss like I just did".

The winds were pretty honest throughout the day with little trickery and those shooters who started off "doping" the winds correctly from the start went on to earn high scores.  Several shooters made good runs at "cleaning the course" though at the end of the day nobody was able to accomplish that.

Tear down afterwards went quickly followed by a light lunch, bottled water and soft drinks.

THANK YOU to all who made the June match, especially to those who helped set up and tear down and assist less experienced shooters.  Be well and shoot straight !!
