Got it in finally from Cameraland last night and got right to work getting it setup once the kiddo was in bed. Man is it a beast! Never had a 34mm tube before but I do like it. Glass seems to be excellent! Turrets are very very good and think they feel nicer than the Midas Tac. Really like the lockable windage even more so than a capped windage like the Midas Tac line but just easier to use not having to take the cap off to adjust when necessary. Parallax adjustment seems to be very accurate and pops in and out very nicely. Will say it's a hair on the stiff side compared to my Midas Tac. The illumination while not really bright in daylight still is visible. Now my favorite is the reticle. I really like it alot. Just has everything that I like in a reticle and is usable for me at all powers. The lines are a hair thicker than the Midas Tac APRS2 reticle which I like and the .2 mil lines makes it easier to see also. Here's a shot through the scope at a starling at about 40yds away on 18x. Paired with my EVOL I think it's the ultimate duo for my pesting needs!
Yes I'd say it's noticable. I've been looking through the Ares alot of the day and just got behind my Midas Tac to test some different .22lr ammo and I could tell pretty quickly the clarity and brightness difference. However I'm also going from a 4-16x44 to 3-18x50 so the 50mm objective does help brightness. But yes can definitely tell difference in the HD to UHD (ED) glass between the two. Here's a different pic at about 150yds
Yeah Hunter it's just a very nicely designed reticle. I looked at many scopes in this price range and very very few reticles I liked. This one was my top one.Zack, I do believe this one is thinner than the Midas Tac. I don't think a huge difference but can tell and would give it the edge. Does seem to really snap in and out of focus nicely. Also nice that the side focus is stiffer than the Midas Tac which I like as I find it easier to get in focus for some reason
Looking good, Dillon! It will be hard to pull away from the ED glass. I have been enjoying ED glass on my Titan scope. I kinda like the Christmas tree reticle you have, but went for the "clean" reticle instead, which is what I'm use to.
Thanks for the additional info Dillon. You're making this a hard scope to resist! I really like the Athlon reticles too. I have the APLR3 MOA reticle on my FT rifle and it's the best I've used so far. The Ares BTR snaps in and out of focus pretty well, but I'm still on the hunt for the unicorn hunter FT scope. Also, of the 3 Ares BTR scopes that I have, the mil-dot scopes have nice firm PA knobs. The PA knob on the MOA scope is a bit more loose, which I don't like as much.
