I always use Crosman Pellgun oil in them. It's basically a fine lubricating oil with a little automatic tranny fluid in it to swell the seals a bit to work well over long periods without damaging them.
Oh my gosh, the gospel is to use non-detergent but the Crosman product is high detergent. I'm just gonna start lubing my pumpers with canola oil and see how that goes!
Monolec 8430 GFS IS motor oil. 30 weight motor oil with high detergency used primarily for off highway vehicles but also air compressors, etc.

When I used to rebuild transmissions for Dodge just for fun we would through pieces of rubber in the old fluid. It would swell up 10 times it's size over night. Now I am sure that certain kinds of rubber resist it but it should soften the harder stuff.

But hey, you obviously have more experience with the entire range of motor oils available on the market. Yeah, it’s 20 wt with tranny fluid…
To All, I'm just a newb, I'm so sorry I opened up this can of worms. Obviously oil in pump guns is as touchy a subject here as oil and oil filters is on many car forums. Have a good day folks.

I just tried to bring actual facts to the discussion. By law, manufacturers and distributors must submit Safety Data Sheets (formerly Material Safety Data Sheets) for products entering interstate commerce. Check out Crosman.com and follow the safety guidelines to the SDS page. Pellgunoil is LE’s Monolec 8430. Period. To suggest that a company like Crosman is willing to go off label and risk OSHA’s wrath is just silly. In another lifetime our facility would take delivery of Monolec 8430 engine oil on a regular basis. It came in 55 gallon drums (a few) and (mostly) 275 gallon totes. It was always red.
