Post by: Septicdeath on June 23, 2022, 05:48:31 PM
The Crosman Model 357 FOUR
Made from 1983 to 1987
The gun is a single/double action .177 caliber CO2 revolver that is a replica of the Colt Python firearm. But breaks open like a Webly mark 4.The pistol has a 4″ barrel, a six-shot rotary clip, and it can hold one CO2 powerlet. They where made in three variants with 4" 6" or 8" barrel.  The 8" the most difficult to obtain. The 6" being the easiest to find.

1983 to 1987
.177 Caliber
CO2 One Powerlet
Six shot revolver single/double action
4 in rifled barrel

I always forget about the 4.

In '88 Crosman started to include the black 6 shot and an additional gray 10 shot with every 357.

I completely forgot they made the 4".

I'm not sure uf it's true for the 4, but I know the 6 often came with 1 black 6 shot cylinder and a grey 10 shot.
They also made a 8 inch. However I have never seen one. But would like one.

I edited my post because I remembered a thread with some reaserch I did.

The 8 was usually a light silver-ish gray but they did do some in Black.
There was also a kit wigh pistol scope and stuff.

I have both the silver and black 8" barreled 357. I made a single shot 8" with piece of 2100 barrel as a target pistol and removing the nib on the cylinder so no movement and the barrel comes through the cylinder. Works well but not anymore accurate than the revolver. Dave

I have the silver one with 8" barrel as well as 2 with 6" and one with the 4" 357 barrel . I also have one that's a smooth bore bb barrel. Written on the barrel 1357 BB.

Got a picture of that single shot you did ?
It sounds interesting, the idea kind of reminds me of the colt camp Perry.
If you're not familiar it's essentially a colt officers model revolver but has a flat single shot .22 " cylinder ".

Hey guys, I’m not sure if this has come up in the past, but FYI some of the 8” barrels in the 357s were made of brass. Most were steel but some were brass. If memory serves me there is a difference in the friction when lead is shot from a brass barrel. Tomorrow I can take some pics of side by side comparison.

I've got a silver 8 inch that I'm pretty sure has a brass barrel. I'll look when I get home from work in the morning. It's been down for years with a broken/missing spring that holds the barrel latch in place.

Here are two examples of 8” brass barrels.

The old 357 barrels are a lot heavier than the Vigilante barrels and Triple Threat barrels.

I had one of those when I was a teen, but I'm pretty sure I got it after 1990, like maybe 1991.  I don't remember which barrel it came with.  maybe the 6" , but I bought the kit with the 8" barrel and a couple of the gray 10 shot cylinders.  I think I also had the 4" barrel as well.  I shot that gun so so so much.  Eventually something broke and I tossed it.  what a bummer.  I think I have a picture of it somewhere.  I got it for my birthday.  I really think around 1991.  Getting to be a while ago now so details are fuzzy, but I remember filling up those little 6 and 10 shot cylinders so many times and going through so many C02 cylinders.

I believe this variant was made in 1993

I have two Vigilante and a Triple Threat. Got a BSA 2x20 pistol scope on one and 1357 6" smooth bore bb barrel on the other.

I bought some old 357 Broken or parts guns just for the barrels and a silver 3578. It started leaking.

Now I have several barrels to switch out on the guns. The three .44 barrel came with the Triple Theat, two Vigilante barrels, two 3576 Barrels and one 3574 barrel. So my Triple Threat is now Sextet Threat. Might paint the silver 8" barrel flat black then it will be a Septet Threat. Or an Octet Threat if I count the 1357 6" bb barrel. Got it all in one four gun hard case.

There's a guy near Atlanta who repairs Cx 357's for $40 plus shipping but a new Vigilante cost about $55.

I took them all out side so I could look in the sunshine. All the barrels are steel except the 3578 which is brass.

The 357 barrels are decidedly heavier than the Vigilante and Tripe Threat barrels.

The 8" barrel seems to have a bushing in pivot screw hole but the others don't. Fun stuff.

I’ve been hunting for one of those 8 inch brass barrel 357’s. My pops sold one that we had back in mid 2000’s to one of his friends. They passed and no one knows what happened to it.

This thread awoke my wants...

I prefer the newer grips over the old 357 grips and I don't care for the exposed piercing knob. I have 4 sets of grips for my three newer style frames. One back and the others spray painted flat white, red and brown. The older barrels were usually scratch up and old looking so I painted them flat black. I also don't like the big Crosman Air Guns lettering on the older frames.

Thought about sanding the Crosman and Crosman emblem off the grips and the lettering off the barrels and repaint.

Wood grips would be nice. I got a set of wood grips for my KWC Model 357. Nice looking and feel but no hole in the bottom to install the co2 cart. Might see if I can carve the hole.

I personally like all the older Crossman revolvers better than the newer ones they seem to be built better. I have owned several new ones and most of them broke was in the first year junk.
