Title: When's the next shoot?
Post by: GD Giles on October 19, 2016, 12:41:45 AM
Are we up for a Sunday Lithonia shoot sometime? When is the Falcons bye week Norman?  ;)

Yeah Lithonia Land fill (Norman's Corner) is due for a shooting meet. I got some different guns to try out this time. I am trying to build a long range .257 with my Air Force Escape.  Hopefully it would be done.

Well, when you want to sell it Trinh, let me know I'll probably buy it if you convert to .257 with Doug's valve.

Tony,

So I ordered these two items (valve and adapter) for my AF Escape. I have an extra 500cc bottle and it has a 18x1.5 threads. Needed an valve to fit the bottle because one that came with the Escape might be too small (since the bottle on the escape is a lot smaller). The valve comes in several sizes , I opted for 5.5mm. I am going to try to polish up the valve stem and possibly enlarge it if I can't get enough FPS. I am not sure what size is Doug's valve.  I also ordered the offset adapter with the 18x1.5 thread. Once I get that installed, I will order the new unchoke barrel and check with you which slugs you are having luck with.

Doug's top hat for his 25 valve is .260 inside diameter. You're going to want straight or slight angled because the amount of air you need to fire a .257 slug. What you have there is going to get you maybe 750 to 800 fps of you're lucky. It's restricting air flow badly from what I've read about the offset adapter. It's the reason I didn't put a talon tunes adapter on mine. You can order a valve and hammer from R&L Airguns if you can't get one from Doug. It just won't shoot as fast as his.

This morning I discovered the Optima scope on my Gladius won't focus down close enough for some shots I might be able to take in the yard. It starts at 30 yards and that's the outer limit of my yard. I could have shots as close as 10 yards. I'm thinking about taking that scope and my hand pump and putting them up for trade for a tank.

Hey, still looking for a date I think. It would be cool to do it before the time change so there's an extra hour of daylight, but if not, that's ok too.

Hey Jesse and Trinh, don't know if you've caught this in another neighborhood or not. Just thought you might want to know if you hadn't seen it. http://www.airgunnation.com/topic/furious-is-an-understatement/ (http://www.airgunnation.com/topic/furious-is-an-understatement/)

They just cleaned up there a couple of weeks ago and a week later someone dumped some tires and burned them in the center of where we park, and a couple days later they dumped more trash.  It's not taking up the entire parking area but it's a lot of trash.  I will check it everyday this week to see if there is another clean-up.

I saw the header this morning but didn't have time to read. That's pretty scary. I hope all the problems will be addressed once mine comes in.  As for shooting date. Any day is fine with me.

I think that issue with the probe screw on the Impacts is only an issue for the .30 cals.  The loads are a lot less on the .25, .22.  They claim to be doling out some free upgraded set screws for them I think.  I still think those are pretty darn neat guns.

I was super impressed with Jesse's .22. I'd still love a Wildcat.

AoA answered in the post that they have sent stronger screws out for replacements.  They were aware of the problem and had already sent out the screws before this incident. It would have been nice if they had notified all the owners before someone could have been hurt.

There's enough room for parking 3-4 vehicles.  But not enough room for a larger gathering. I plan to go out there for a couple of hours tomorrow to play with my scope cam.

We can all help. There is no need for you to do it by yourself. Maybe one of us can make a big warning sign with several guns as background? On a side note, I finally got my Vulcan zeroed in with a new scope. Took down 3 tree rats and wounded one around the house within 15 minutes yesterday. They are multiplying like there is no tomorrow.

Trinh from what I've gathered they normally dump trash late at night and is in and out in 5-10 minutes.  I doubt they would heed a sign  :o

YES!!!!!! Just got the call. My triple black .30 Impact just went out vis UPS, should be here in couple of days. Sold my Cricket last week so everything worked out. I think Falcons have a bye week soon.  ;D SO LETS THE SHOOTING PARTY begin.

Haha!  You may want to check out that probe situation, or if they put the "new improved" set screw in there.  You can get the improved screw free.  I'm assuming you saw that thread on that?  It should be a sweet gun though!

Well, wish y'all guys where alot closer to North GA. Had fun out at Jesse's Sunday for a couple of hours. Managed to take out another spinner at 150. Troy brought some cool guns to shoot. Maybe I can manage to swing out to the land fill Norm is talking about. I'm also getting a couple of guns painted this week. I'll post pics when they're done. A friend is painting them with gun kote bake on paint. One .257 is going to be the 2400 series foliage green and the other .257 I'm painting 2500 series metallic burnt bronze.

I saw it. Mine is coming from Precision so not sure if they are aware of it. I know AoA does. Anyways, it looks like I will have to scan through alot of postings on AGN to figure out what all the quick fixes are.

No, one is 27-5/8" and the other one is 32". You really don't see any speed till you step up to the longer barrel as you're dumping alot of air and need the extra lenght to build up the power. So far I'm still chasing bullets. The 60 gr Noe's I have gotten from Knifemaker on here are doing pretty dang good. My 27" barreled gun slings them out at 1020 fps. Now the rifle I just bought with the 32" barrel and Doug's tank setup slings them out at 1070 fps with the power wheel on zero. That's almost to fast already to turn them up any more. Knife said they like around they speed but would loose accuracy once you reached 1100 fps. I hit Jesse's 150 yard 4" spinner 3 consecutive shots and the 3rd one knocked the spinner off. It's pretty dang accurate. I'm still playing with the 80 hr Ranchdog hp and the 82 gr spritzers. It's pushing those at 1020 fps range with the power wheel on 4. You'll need to slug your barrel to know what size bullets to order. One barrel slugged .2575 and the other one was .2578. so I ordered bullets .2578 from Knifemaker.

Ok. We need to set a date for this next Lithonia shoot. Probably January now? Different topic-what would you do? I have $230 in Pyramid Air credit. My top 3 needs are:

1. Air tank fill system
2. New scope for Gladius (or take the one off my 95 and replace that)
3. Shooting rest like the Field Pod or a long bi pod.

So, my credit won't get me a fill system. Their cheapest one is $300 and it's a Pony tank that holds 4500 psi but is regulated to 2900 psi output, which would be fine for my Gladius. But I'll only get about 14 gun fills per tank fill. Probably a great choice for field use/hunting. I don't know. I don't fill my gun 14 times in a day when I'm shooting you guys. That first attempt at the hammer spring adjustment I might have filled it 10 times maybe. I went through almost 300 pellets but that's far from a 'normal' shooting situation. Maybe I should consider that tank.

Most of my shooting is 30 yards or under w/the Gladius. So I think I'd be better served w/a scope that covers that ground well and can go out to 50 or whatever when I want to. So I'm looking at the UTG Bugbuster which can go as close as an incredible 3 yards! Sometimes I do have pests that close.

I want the same Caldwell Field Pod Norman has but the only one PA sells is the one for sitting down, which is fine w/me. But, they sell it for about $30 more than just about anybody else on line. They also sell one aluminum bi pod that can be used for seating or standing for under $40. Don't know if that would make me happy or not. I never tried Donny's at the last shoot. I should probably do that.

I was hoping I'd be getting PA gift cards that I might have been able to trade w/one of you for a used tank set up but it's not gift cards. So I'm making some kind of PA purchase. And due to how my credit works I can't qualify for any discounts/coupon codes. :( Whatever I get I'm paying full price for it.

Do you get the 4 for 3 pellet deal?  How about you get a bunch of pellets and I will give you a 30 minute tank with fill assembly and the Centerpoint scope I offered to give you before?  That will knock off two things from your list  ;D

Oh no, not regular points.  They took your fun points and turned them into responsible adult points.  There goes the "I have to use them at PA" excuse :(  FWIW, I found shooting with that trigger stick and a chair pretty nice.  I can shoot with that set up all day.  Norman is good about having stuff other people need, haha!  I hope we can shoot soon, so I can check out Norman's .25 Cricket and Trinhs new toys too.

The crazy thing is if you look at the factory video they use modern CNC equipment for manufacturing their guns.   It seem like there should be few "rough" metal parts and other  QC issues.

Ok. I've still got the credit. I didn't know I got bonus points at certain intervals. You want that 3 for 4 deal, right? ;)  From what I'm told I can do 4 for 3 so PM me your pellet order and what the price should be. If you could get the item # etc that helps too. I'm not sure what happens if stuff is backordered or out of stock. They ask me to put down a 2nd choice. So keep that in mind. Hit me up.

I consider a regulator a must have if you do much longer range shooting, and I know Norman really likes his.  Of the ones you mentioned, I do prefer the Huma, since it has exact markings for the settings.  I also like the Audrius regulator Norman has in his Galatian.  It seems very well built too.  That Brocock has a smallish air cylinder, so the reg will take up some of that.  I think folks have been getting good results without one.  I know the reg has increased the shot count of every gun I've messed with.  Have you run any strings with the Brocock yet??

I'm on facebook.  My name on there is D Avery Sellars, so look me up!

A few moons ago I did a study for AT&T about using helicoptors to do the same thing and the ROI was there but the Union basically said not a snowballs chance any of their employees was getting in a helicoptor... killed the project, and maybe opened the door for what you are going to do.  :D

Well in Columbus for Sunday the good news is that it's supposed to 68 degrees. The bad news is there's a 60% chance of rain.

Dont' know what the weather up there ended up being but down here it would rain a bit, then the sun, then rain, then sun and the whole time the wind was pretty stout. Not as much rain during the day as originally predicted but by evening it had settled in for the next several hours and just quit w/in the last hour this morning. We need it. Can't feel bad about it.

Was pretty foul. Rained all weekend. Gave me time to fix the bolt handle on my Varmint. Broke the soft Chinese metal so ended up salvaging some old dental tool.

Speaking of tools, I got to use a zirconia dental bit and dental drill the other day.  I had a dentist that was desperate to get his copier working, so I had to fabricate a part out of a metal screw.  That zirconia is pretty cool stuff!  It cut that metal like butter.

That's what I used to cut too.  ;D. Diamond burs will cut porcelain like butter so metal is a breeze. On a side note , I might seriously picking up a 9x20 lathe soon. Been talking to this guy for over 2 months.

That's awesome!  You can have all kinds of fun with that!  We're gonna have send all of parts to you to machine now, haha.  The bit I used sorta looked like a little pineapple.  It was wasn't diamond grit.  It was solid zirconia.  Very cool stuff!

Hey guys, I just wanted to give a heads up to those of you in the group with the Gladius/Bullboss guns that I or you put the little o-ring in there as a hammer buffer.  I encountered an issue with it when trying to shoot at high power settings, and it was causing the hammer to drag/bind a bit with very high pre-load settings  :-[  I don't think it will be an issue if you're shooting at normal power levels, but I wanted to give you guys a heads up just in case.  I do have a different, longer spring in my gun that is capable of pushing the hammer harder than the the factory spring, and I'm pretty sure that contributed the issue.

I just feel better letting you guys know, so you don't end up chasing your tail like I did if you really start to push your guns for power.  The real benefit to that o-ring in there is in the low to medium power settings, so you guys will likely not have any issues from it.  My hammer was hitting it so hard that it sort of wedged itself inside the o-ring, which doesn't equal good shot strings.  It won't hurt anything if that happens, but...   So there ya go, you are now informed  ;D

Probably the same but then I don't use that gun to hunt. It is strictly a target gun so I don't mind the weight as the only time I shoot it is with your guys.

Today was perfect for getting out to shoot. Temperature in the 70s, no wind and very pleasant.  I went out to the landfill today for about 4 hours.  I'm sure I went through more than 500 pellets and hit some very long shots on cans.

Norman, he's got a pump and is older and as rotund as me so I guess he'll be happy to tap my tank as well. Looks like I got it just in time! Still haven't found a place to fill it up yet but I've not looked that hard either. It's been hard to get too much done during the holidays.

Hey guys I wanted to get your opinion.  Now that I got the Bullboss punching above it's weight like my AT-44, I'm seriously considering selling the AT.  What do peeps think?  I know Norman will say keep it,lol!  I mean, I basically have two guns that do the same thing, and they are both equally accurate.  The AT-44 has a slight power advantage, but not at a level I think I'll ever use it at.  I don't even know how much the AT-44 is realistically worth.  Sure, I know it is a dang solid shooter, what work has been done to it, and how well it has been taken care of, but that doesn't always transfer to the value of the gun.  It is still an AT-44 Long QE after all.

I ain't gonna lie, I'm a little attached to it, but I technically don't have a use for it.  I suppose it is good to have it at the ready with it's current 51fpe tune, should I need the extra power for a "situation".  I'm a little torn here.

Opinions??
Title: Re: When's the next shoot?
Post by: blackdiesel on December 29, 2016, 01:01:33 AM
I say keep it   :D.  Seriously, I would set one up as a high shot count small game hunter and the other as a hammer for bigger game.  Instead of getting a 25 cal you can substitute one gun and not have to change the cylinder, just grab and go.  You have put a lot of work into that gun and to sell it you would lose money because there's only so much you can command for it.  It's performing way above its' market value.

Depending on what you have in mind of getting next? No reason of keeping something that is the same. Its like a polygamist marrying a twin. :).

That has to be one of the best analogies I've ever heard Trinh, lol!   You and Norman both have good points.  I think I'm just going to hang onto it for now.  I'm not saying it isn't for sale if the right offer or situation were to present itself though.  It is nice to be able to pick up a gun with double the power without changing anything.  I'm not quite broke enough yet to HAVE to sell it.  I was just thinking out loud.
Title: Re: When's the next shoot?

Donny, that is the same situation I had with the Bullboss and the P12... Yes the Bullboss was a repeater and the P12 is a single shot, but they both performed about the same and I don't mind single shots... IMHO, this hobby demands trying different guns, and while I have caught myself regretting selling my Condor to Jesse, I am enjoying learning the ins and outs of the BT65 .25 cal I replaced it with...  what if you sold both guns and grabbed one of those nice Russian .30 cals...hahaha it never ends!

Title: Re: When's the next shoot?
Post by: smythsg on January 01, 2017, 08:41:24 PM
Donny, I do have some 30 gn slugs that I know will fit the magazine that I have not tried yet, and the thought has crossed my mind.

Since it has been raining non stop the last few days I did some adjusting on the BT65 with .25 Benji domes and shot this string across my indoor chrony setup:

Starting fill pressure 180 bar
Ending pressure 125 bar

927,929,944,941,942,948,953,944,951,940,941,941,929,932,927

Low 927 (53 ft lbs)
High 953 (56 ft lbs)
Average 940 (54.5 ft lbs)

This seems like a pretty good shot vs power trade-off for a dedicated hunting air rifle.

I will try the slugs tomorrow and see how they do.

Our biggest issue of late has been the weather.  The fact that the Falcons are in the playoffs isn't going to help right now either.  A lot of us have to watch the Falcons games :D  Hopefully, we'll get to shoot soon though.  I'm needing some trigger time myself!

Sunday afternoon works for me or Sat.before or after the ballgame (when do they play?) Got the new Gamo Urban yesterday and would really like to see what I got there. always more interesting shooting with friends. I also have a few other toys I'll bring along .

Looking forward to seeing the gun in person. For the price, it can't be beat. How many shots have you gotten out for each fill?

I've thought about it. Unfortunately that's as far as I've gotten... I keep thinking a I need to make a stock for my 880 and put some carving or pyro on it... I have the old stock scanned in to my CarveWright software, longer bits and software upgrade purchased, and the jig almost finished... I just lack about 15 minutes work to be able to actually carve one out. I just have had so many other things I chose to do instead. But it's on the "to do" list for sure...

Norman, if you payed attention to Jim's pellet trap, and portable shooting bench that he says he "threw together", then you would have known that he has some wood working skills up his sleeve.  Speaking of, I need to replace the front door on my pellet trap, it is looking rough these days.  Hopefully, I can manage to make myself do that before Sunday.  I'm going to poke around my carbon fiber scraps, and see if I have enough to cover the front of the trap with.  That'll prevent some damage, since the scrap pieces I have laying around are 5 layer thick autoclaved CF :D

You can count me in for Sunday I think!

Hey Tony I decided to go with an Airmax Varmint.  It's a great little shooter but it developed a leak and I haven't fixed it.  My collection kind of moves but nothing like Trinh (Tin Soldier), he fall out of love with guns so fast they hardly get a tin of pellets through them.  ;) Hope you make it to the shoot.

On the Gamo I can already say I want to regulate it but I cant find anything on that or even tearing it down. so new even hard to find stuff on youtube.. It has the potential to be an absolute tack driver, just need to figure out how to tap that potential. Blackdiesel, I'm planning to be there. The shooting toys and related stuff should cover it I'd think.  You may want to bring targets/target holders, but not required.  I'm sure some of us will have targets to use either way.  You alos might want to bring a chair/shooting rest or table etc., but again it isn't necessary.  We always work it out if something is needed.  Norman is too good to shoot sitting at a table like us lesser shooters, so  he has a very nice standing rest he uses, lol!  He does usually bring a table though  ;)  I'm happy shooting from a chair with a trigger stick myself.  We usually just show up and shoot stuff.

I have some more empty 1lb propane cans I can bring to knock around.  I'll have a few targets too.  Is anyone bringing a chrony, or do I need to bring mine?  I got new glasses, so if I shoot bad, I've got my excuse covered.

On the Gamo I can already say I want to regulate it but I cant find anything on that or even tearing it down. so new even hard to find stuff on youtube.. It has the potential to be an absolute tack driver, just need to figure out how to tap that potential. Blackdiesel, I'm planning to be there. Looking forward to getting together with folks who know something about my "addiction" without driving all the way to NC or Ak to airgun shows. :)

Great.  As far as the Gamo.  Try looking for videos manuals, etc for the BSA Buccaneer.  Their internals should be almost the same. BTW that was Darrell (Pepegraves) who asked about the Urban recently.  I made a post on AGN about it months ago before it was released.

As it stands now Sunday works for me. Norman before you go in on the urban for your kid you can check mine out and see what you think. lot of potential there but a couple of issues you guys may be able to help me out on... strange stuff going on with my shot string. I'll bring some crony numbers with me and see what you guys think. The Gamo is the latest addition to my family of "toys" I do have a mrod .25, a prod .22, Sam Yang 909 .45,  and some CO2 toys as well. I'm sorta new to GTA but got bit by the airgun bug about 5 years ago and been hooked (addicted ) ever since . As for getting together with some of you guys saturday in statham or somewhere thats workable too. So back to sunday, what do i need to bring besides shooting toys and related "stuff". ?

Norman is too good to shoot sitting at a table like us lesser shooters, so  he has a very nice standing rest he uses, lol!  He does usually bring a table though  ;)  I'm happy shooting from a chair with a trigger stick myself.  We usually just show up and shoot stuff.

Donnie I got a nice front rest- I'm just too lazy to drag a table outside everytime I shoot.

You know I'm just cuttin' up man :D  I got in my tins of H&N Sniper Lights and FTT to try out for accuracy.  I also got a cheap Atlas knock-off bipod to play with.  I actually kinda like it from just playing with it.  It seems very well built and very adjustable.  Here's the link of the one I got: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LWATDQG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LWATDQG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

I intend to fix my pellet trap/target holder before Sunday, complete with "shielding" for the front :D   I've been itching to get some shooting time in, as you can tell!

I have a UTG 360 Recon bipod.  It's a well built Atlas clone too.  I have to figure out which gun to use it on. I've pretty much replaced all my synth stocks for wood and don't have a rail attachment.
Title: Re: When's the next shoot?
Post by: Rallyshark on January 12, 2017, 11:46:27 PM
Yeah, with the black bipod on my AT, and the black stock/scope, that gun is starting to look like Darth Vader a little bit  ;D  I'll probably just use the bipod on whichever gun I happen to be shooting, since I only shoot one at a time(if I need a bipod at the time).

My friend Terry will be joining me. He just got his first PCP at Christmas, an FX Verminator. I know you'll enjoy checking that out. We'll be up there by 2:30 for sure. Do we need to bring anything? What time is sun down? I hope we can get in 4 hours of shooting.
Title: Re: When's the next shoot?
Post by: GD Giles on January 13, 2017, 02:22:49 PM
Trinh, are you bringing your Impact? Does it take the same probe as my friend's Verminator? Right now his probe is on a pump. Not sure if it's on a Foster or not. Are you also bringing your compressor?

Are we grilling out? Do we need to bring anything if so?

I'm sure Trinh's Impact is at AoA for repairs.

Title: Re: When's the next shoot?

It was leaking air when he got it.
Title: Re: When's the next shoot?
Post by: Rallyshark on January 13, 2017, 07:29:12 PM
Glen, I don't think you'll have much time to shoot AND worry about grilling stuff.  The light will be pretty low by 5:30 I think.  Given what time you guys will be showing up, you'd probably be better served to hit a drive through on the way, so you can have more time shooting stuff :D

I'm just showing up with shooting related stuff, and that's about it for me.

So yesterday I called up AoA to get a status on my impact. The tech guy said they can't find a leak when they put their bottle on.  :o. I told them ...it leaks with my bottle and the only reason why I didn't send it in was because precision told me not to in order to save weight. #%%$^^@..so this morning I had to send /the bottle on my dime. At this point I just want it repaired.

I will bring the compressor if you guys need it. Billy and his cousin are comin g too. I sold his cousin my Varmint since my son ...actually me  ;) enjoy shooting the Brocock more.

I'm betting it won't be much bigger if Trinh does his part.  Those Brococks seem to be pretty darned accurate from what I've seen.

I just cleaned the barrels on the Bullboss and the AT-44, and re-zeroed the scopes.  The H&N FTTs are not a go for the Bullboss.  It hates them probably more than any pellet I have, they were shooting Rabbit Magnum groups, lol!  I wish they would offer them in head sizes smaller than 5.53.  What's up with that anyway?  The sniper lights seemed to do okay though.

The barrel on the AT-44 was NASTY.  I guess it has been longer than I thought since I cleaned it.  The good news is that it seems to be doing just fine with the Jumbo Monsters cooking along in the 960fps range :)  I didn't try the Ultrashocks, since I needed to put stuff away in time for the Falcons game.  Hopefully, I'll get my trap/target fixed tonight after the game.  If the weather stays like it is today, it will be awesome.  I may even try and print out some NUAH targets tonight  ;)

So I went to swap out scopes on the Gladius and the Center Pointe has dovetails rings and I Ned Weaver/picatinny.  The rings on the gun now are 30mm and I need 1". Any of you have some 1" weaver/picatinny I can trade or buy from you tomorrow?

I got the pellet trap fixed, complete with a CF front "shield" just now.  It came at a cost though.  I hurt my back a couple of weeks ago, and then I re-aggravated it Friday moving a copier.  Then all that time I spent today leaning and working on stuff has made it pretty bad.   I'm in some pretty bad pain right now, but I'm WILL be there tomorrow to shoot.  I just MAY have to get you guys to help me get stuff out of the car or set my pellet trap out there :(  This is $#%^$#% crappy, but I will be shooting tomorrow dang it!

Yep, it was a much needed shoot for me.  It was good to meet all the new folks I haven't met before, and the weather was awesome!  I've determined that the Bullboss doesn't like a clean barrel on the long range stuff.  It finally started getting on target after about 150 rounds.  Maybe I just need to convince Hatsan to let me purchase a LW barrel and be done with it :D  I was able to track down a standard 19" barrel, but not the 23"...

Glen, we need to see some dead squirrel pictures soon now.  You have a scope and its hitting the target.  No more testing, start hunting, lol!

Norman, that Cricket .25 is pretty awesome, and insanely quiet!

Trinh I think you are using some type of Jedi mind tricks on me.  I forgot to shoot the RAW again.  Since it's supposed to get to 70% I might go back out and do some more shooting today.  Donny I'm sure you will find the pellet that works well in your boss with a clean barrel.  And Glen that gun is a shooter.  After it got on target 3 pellets went into the same hole-literally.  I had a great time as always.

I know the Gladius is a straight shooter, a hard hitter, and I've got it tuned to get 4 mags out of one charge at power level 4. But it's heavy. I can still myself with something like an FX Wildcat 25 one day.

Know EXACTLY what you mean. Mine's the same way, but I couldn't get a shot off at a squizzel the other day to save my life. He's way high up in the tree and moving every so often, and I'm trying to sight on him offhand with my Gladius, and just couldn't get a bead on him... Every time I'd just about get the crosshairs lined up (sorta) he'd move...

Have you tried polishing the barrel? Also the hammer tube? My AT44 .177 is not very accurate, so those are the first things I'm going to do. Of course, polishing a .177 size barrel is not going to be as easy as, say, a .22 or a .25, but we'll see how it goes.

The barrel on both of my guns has been thoroughly worked over :D  It isn't that it isn't accurate, but the pellets it likes change depending on the level of how clean it is.  Turns out that the Bullboss was digging the Barracuda Hunter Extremes after I got it "leaded in" at the shoot.  Trinh and I were shooting bottle caps and pebbles off the top of a gate at 80ish yards, so the accuracy wasn't terrible.  Most of my pesting is 35 yards and under, and a ton of pellets are accurate at that distance.   When you're shooting at the long distance stuff with Norman, Trinh, and Troy the competition gets tough, lol!  I've got plenty of excuses just in case I need them...

Hi guys, I just purchased an Airforce Escape in .25 cal from Trinh and it is going to replace my .25 cal BT65 QE which I am going to put on the Classifieds soon. I would much rather sell it locally if anyone is interested. The gun is in prefect condition and I currently have it shooting 31 gn Baracudas in the 900-925 fps range. Man, so sorry to hear about Troy. I hope he's ok and everything gets sorted out well. Too bad lawyers for car wrecks never advertise. ;)

I won't be able to come up this weekend; I have a meeting after church. I need to get up there though 'cause there ain't no shootin' down here! Still haven't found a place. I need to spend more time looking.

Oh, I met a guy named Ralph on another site and he's in the ATL area and might join up here at GTA and show up to a shoot. I mentioned that you all were getting together this weekend.

Okay, so who's going shooting?  Norman, Trinh, new peeps? I'll be there.

I got my reflex sight mounted on the pp700, and I just need to get it sighted in.  I shot 15 shots in my hallway to get the sight in the ballpark, and it still had 170 bar left.  I kinda like that little Truglo sight so far, but I haven't used it in the sunshine yet.

I didn't get around to changing out the barrel on the Bullboss, but I figure I'll see what it does without me cleaning it this time.  I do have a barrel though, so I should be able fix it if it don't behave.  Hopefully, we'll get to see how that Kral of Trinh's does at range :)

I will be there.  I think Joseph and Paul are coming.  Based on my last communication Paul is bringing a guest.  We should have enough people to make it an event.  I'm bringing a table and chair.  If someone else have a table and chair to bring I think that will be enough shooting surface.

Sounds good.  Last time I talked to Trinh(facebook) he said he was going, but that was a few days ago...  What time is everyone supposed to be there?  I'm gonna try to be there by 1.

I would have order a pistola like yours but yesterday some *sshat stole my credit card info. and decided to order $1100 of women's clothing online. C.C. company called to confirm and I told "NO". If they would have pay attention to all the charges I have on my credit card , they would realized all my charges are for guns, ammos, and adult toys.  ::)

So now I can't do any shopping for a while until they send me a new one.

Tony, after talking to you. I got a chance to shoot one when Troy showed up this past weekend. That is one mighty gun from Russia. I tried to trade him for my Kral but he wouldn't have any of it.

Tony, you caved to the Darkside...again  ;D :D ;D Congrats on the new shooter, they seem like awesome airguns. If they came in .25 cal I would own one but not quite ready for .30 just yet.
Title: Re: When's the next shoot?

They are in 22, 30 and 35 cal.  I wonder why no 25 cal?
Title: Re: When's the next shoot?
Post by: Tony Fryery on February 25, 2017, 07:09:19 AM
I know if you look them up and get on a Russian site, you can order them in .25 or 6.35 mm. But with R&L and wildwest airguns the only sellers of the Jager's in the US, you're limited to 3 calibers. Norm, I'm kinda regretting selling you all my .30 cal pellets. "dang" near every where is back ordered 44.75 gr. R&L had some and I ordered 4 tins of 44.75 jsbs and 4 cans of polymags. Then midway has the vortex .30 Cal's for kinda cheap. $15 a can and I ordered 8 cans of those too. Now if Swfa will get the 42 mm sunshades in stock, I can get my 3.5-15x42 scope from them. They have them on a sale right now for $450 with sun shade and Butler Creek caps.

Post by: blackdiesel on February 25, 2017, 11:09:51 AM
I tried some of the Vortex and they shoot better than JSBs.  H&N makes Vortex but they use the JSB dies and the dies are new so the pellets are more consistent than pellets from the older JSB dies. Do you need me to give you a couple of tins to get you started?  I'm still happy you gave me such a great deal on the pellets  ;D
Title: Re: When's the next shoot?
Post by: Tony Fryery on February 25, 2017, 05:00:19 PM
Thanks for the offer Norm, but I have 16 cans coming in the mail. Rifle won't be here till Wednesday with 8 cans of pellets, so I think I'm covered for shooting for alittle while. I'm getting some slugs from Nick to try his swagged .30 cal and Al of Areo Magnum is sending some for me to test. I'm just going to have to break down and buy a compressor or something to fill my tanks with. Who'd be good for shooting next Sunday? I really need to sight this rifle in and tune her up.

Hello Jim.  Saturdays are not good anymore.  There are new owners of the quarry that's inside the gate and it's open on Saturdays.  A few months ago some powder burners were out there shooting and some of the drivers for the quarry called the police because the shooters wouldn't stop when the drivers were exiting the gate and their vehicles was almost hit by bullets.  The officer asked me to just shoot on Sundays to avoid any complaints by the people working at the quarry.

Title: Re: When's the next shoot?

Trinh, I've been thinking, and I think you and Troy should just machine that poly barrel to fit an AT-44/Bullboss instead.  I mean, you don't really need it, haha :D  I'm just joking.  I am very curious to see how that poly barrel turns out though.  You know I've been thinking about doing the same thing for a while, but I'm slow and usually broke.  How complicated is that Kral barrel on the breach end?

So it looks like the weather might be okay for Sunday.  Partly cloudy in the 60s, but I didn't hear mention of rain, so that's good.  I do plan on making it.  I gotta do some "studying up" on BT65 triggers, so I can put Norman's back together!

Lol, well, if I put her back to .257 she's going to be loud, but I have my condor setup to shoot .25 cal 33.95 jsbs right now. I'm more or less ready to get the Jager up and going. She's scoped and 2200 pellets to feed thru her. Just need to sight her in and slow her down some as my shot card from r&l shows her pushing the 44.75 at 990 fps.

Hello Tony.  We usually get there around 1:00pm.  I checked today and the illegal dumpers were busy.  But you can always park on the street. Once you turn onto Scales rd just go to the place where there is closed yellow gates.  You will see a place to park on the right.

I am so tempted to order the same pistola like Donny. However with the recent incident of my credit card being used fraudulently (since I rarely used credit card, mainly paypal). They (Mrodair) were one of the few places I last used,  I am a little apprehensive about placing another order with them. Besides, he is probably not happy that I did a charge back either because I had cancel an order and it was never was credited after 2-3 weeks.  But I sure like his LDC options.  :o

Rocker1 got his in today from Aceros...  He was mad, because he had too much work to do, before he could play with it,lol!  Those PP700s are starting to multiply like rabbits here in the states it would seem.  They really are a heck of a deal for a PCP pistol that actually has the juice for small pesting past 20 yards.  I really wonder how good I could shoot with it, if I had a 6-7X pistol scope on it...

On a side note, I can't wait to see how that LW barrel turns out on your Kral Trinh!

Y'all realize we all have a issue. I shoot Troy's Jager, buy one. See Donny's pistol, bought one and didn't even shoot his. Heard Trinh's impact and kinda want to see what it sounds like in .30 cal now. Troy's rapid I would love to find a deal on one of those. Norm's carbine looked like a shooter too. I'd personally want a .25 or larger. Troy, have some 47 gr epp slugs coming along with some 57 and 61 grain slugs to try out in the Jager. Al still hasn't gotten his finished. Maybe this coming Sunday we can go have a shoot if everyone's not to busy.
Title: Re: When's the next shoot?
Post by: Rallyshark on March 12, 2017, 09:29:43 PM
I see no problems there, lol!  Trinh's Impact in .30 is pretty dang quiet for a .30 IMO...

On a side note, I have decided I'm going to sell my AT-44.  There is nothing at all wrong with it, but my Bullboss fulfills my needs, is the same caliber, and capable of the same power(almost).  I currently have the AT-44 tuned to shoot 20 shots with an ES of around 30fps and an average of 954fps with the JSB 25.39s(.22).  It is easily capable of 50+ shots at 30fpe with a few turns of the hammer spring.  Actually, it can be tuned for anything from 10fpe to 60fpe with just hammer spring adjustments.  If any of you guys may be interested, just let me know.  I'll probably list it in the classifieds soon.

I won't be able to make it this Sunday as I am going to look at a chevy truck in Alabama . Last shooting I had with you guys made missed out on a black 86 c10 shortbed survivor  >:( .  I am stick kicking myself for not going to check it out. It was sold next day.  However let me know If you guys are shooting, I have a guy interested in coming out.  He is from Newnan and have a large land, he keeps inviting me to come to shoot. He is mainly a springer but interested in PCP.  Maybe Donny can show him the AT44.

I think the fastest I've got it to shoot them is 1036fps :D  That wouldn't be a very useful string though.  I'm sure I could do a darn near 1000fps tune on it for 10 shots at least though, lol! As far as I know, I haven't seen anyone else get that kind of power from an AT-44 in .22, but I could be wrong?  The PEEK valve seat is what really made that possible.

Everybody knows Chevys are the devil Trinh, and you should only buy non-Chevy products, haha!  I'm just picking at ya...  Chevys are cheaper to build engines for though.  I know I definitely can't make it on the weekend of the 26th to shoot.  I may be able to this coming weekend, but I'm not positive about that.  We all need to make friends with that guy with the land if he has critter problems!

Well, the bar has been set, it's official we can shoot jsb's .30 out to 243 yards and hit a propane can.

I guess I'm just going to stay home when the next shoot comes around too, lol!  Did you guys do that with the Jager?

Actually, we popped it with Norm's hercules. Might have shot a tin of pellets all around it, but we hit it. The Jager needs alittle ummmm massaging from Allen. Troy didn't bring his to try it, but I believe he's going to this coming week. Might talk him into bring the .50 also, so bring some ear plugs.

Wow!  The weather sure was good for shooting today too.  I gotta ask, how much was the holdover??
Title: Re: When's the next shoot?
Post by: blackdiesel on April 03, 2017, 12:05:38 AM
Actually not much holdover.  The scope is 3-18x50.  It's zeroed at 50 yards @12x.  The magnification lowered to 10x the hash mark between the 2 and 3.

I would have thought more than that would be needed.  What speed is the Hercules shooting at?  Either way, pretty impressive.  You guys need to try and get that on camera.

It shoots the 44 gr JSBs a little over 1000 fps for the first 10-15 shots from a 230 bar fill.  But they stay stable even at long distance.  Sometime this week if the weather permits and I get a little time I'm going to go out and adjust my zero with the adjustable mounts so I can aim bullseye on target and try again. I knocked dust up against the can or hit a little too long with a lot of my shots.

I'm going to order some unsized cast epp slugs and see if that will help with the accuracy issue I had with them as Randy suggest I need a .304 sized cast. Maybe that will be alittle more accurate out at that range. Either way, I want to start shooting 150 plus as a norm out there. Makes it's mmmmm more of a challenge. Don't blame me when y'all get bit by the bug and get hooked on shooting past 100 yards.

I can go this weekend, and possibly the next.  I'll be doing that photography stuff for Road Atlanta the last two weekends in April, and the second weekend in May though.

Troy and me are down to come out. I've already talked to Troy to confirm he's going to make it.

Okay, cool!  I will come out for a bit then.  I need to try the pistol out at some longer ranges with the new glass on it.  I won't be shooting any 200+ yard shots with my Bullboss, but I think I'm good for maybe 125-150 yards.  I never shoot the long distances out there, because I'm usually over on the side where I can't see any of the targets for the weeds.   You may want to make a post on the FB group as well, just in case?

Donny you will have to change your shooting place.  They dumped a couple of mounds of dirt and rocks in your usual line of fire. :(

Oh well, I'll figure it out.  If there's one thing I'm not, it would be picky about where I shoot.  Heck, my entire shooting setup is a folding chair, lol!

So I saw another guy on AGN having the same problem with his cocking lever popping out on his Kral.  There is another guy here that is suppose to be machining a new cocking lever with the dimension so that it won't pop out. I am tempted to get another Kral. I actually miss tinkering with mine.

Hi, Guys.  New to GTA and thought I'd say hello.   If I can make it past the labyrinth of freeway closures around town it would be great to get together to say hello and shoot one day.

Landfill sounds interesting...  Targets or rats (or are they the same :))

It is usually just targets.  But we do shoot pretty long shots.  The most frequent distance we shoot is usually around 80 yards.  We do shoot 100-125 yards often as well.  Some of the guys have even topped out at 240 yards!  Of course we do shoot shorter distances often too.  The 80 yard mark just happens to be a good place to put "targets", which can be anything from dime sized rocks to cans.

Let the Jager get back from Allen. We're going for 300 yards hopefully with cast bullets. Welcome to the club Ben. Might need to bring your daystate out and let us look it over. I might be interested in a new toy.

Hello Ben good to see you made it over here.  Question: Are you the same Airgun Atl that sell the Huggett LDCs?  I think you will like the new Cricket carbine.  I traded mine for the Omega compressor that I recently sold- I hated to let go of the cricket but it was a great trade for me.

I got the carbine and sent it off the next day to Charlie at Georgia Airguns to tune it up.  Somewhere along the way someone had dremmeled the cocking faceplate (it is a legit mod, but this one was bungled) so it needed to be replaced and the hammer spring seemed a little tired.  I had to max out the HST to get to 32fpe with no room to spare.  So Charlie is going to replace some parts, give it a once over, change the orings, etc.  I decided to refinish the stock while he has the action.  When I got the gun the stock was orange.  No kidding.  What's odd is that I already own another orange stocked gun.  So another week and it will all be back together.  Yes, I do have Huggetts from time to time. :)

Here's my other orange gun, .25 BSA Ultra:

I think it will be pretty windy if yesterday was any indication.  It is still gusting pretty good here now.  I've been at the track the last two weekends doing photos, and this is my first weekend "off" in a while, so I've been catching up on chores around the house.  I have to be at the track next weekend too, but at least it is for Drift which is always a hoot.  I'll be up for some target practice from 5-21 on though :)

I should have my Jager back by then also. It was fairly breezy yesterday, but we had some fun. Noman's RAW is pretty dang accurate.
