Early, self-cocking 760's and 1400 have no valve stem.
Should they still be ssored with a pump or 2 in the valve?

Because of the nature of the auto cocking operating system - crosman recommended storing the guns WITHOUT any pressure. I understand the legality of such a statement but I still store my ‘66 760 with 1 pump, I have read of others using 2 without issue. Just make sure there is no BB/pellet ready to fire, in the unlikely event, someone were to grab it and pull the trigger without FIRST checking to make sure it was safe to do so!

Some will say yes but I never do store them with any pumps of pressure. I pump them and dry fire whenever I think of it and I never have any problems.

The purpose of storing a pumper with air in it is (allegedly) to keep crud out of the valve. On the self cockers I can't see where it would put stress on the mechanism to hold a charge of one or two pumps and it would help exclude crud. I keep two pumps in all of mine when they are stored. I know from a safety perspective that ain't right but no one touches these guns but me. I've done an alcohol flush more than once and it's always a frustrating process.

Funny how time changes things. A few years ago it was the general consensus of our members that all pumpers be stored with a couple pumps in them. Now it appears that many think otherwise. I still store mine with a couple pumps to keep pressure on the orings. It's also a good way to see if they hold air or leak over time. I especially store my Sheridan Streaks with a couple pumps. I wonder how many degas their PCP guns before storing. What would be the difference? It's still pressure on the seals.
I do what works for me, others can do what works for them.

I like to keep a pump or two in my pumpers across the board, when I go to use one it is nice to dry fire and hear a nice pop of air release
