Title: BNM Custom problem
Post by: DameSp on December 18, 2017, 10:01:25 PM
Just got my custom 2240 and I’m a little dissapointed to say the least.  The mag was broken and had the wire pulled out of the back.  There is a LOT of play in the shroud, (things jingling around.). And I had to loosen the screw in front of the trigger and just about strip the cap on the cartridge seal just to get the c02 to puncture and preform.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?  Is any of this notmal?  I’m not sure what to do but for over 200$ I’m ready to send this thing back...

Go no further.  Contact Crosman with your story.  They should provide a prepaid label to return it if it is within its warranty period (and I presume it is).

They generally have fantastic customer service.

Well it was built custom from BNM Custom.  So I’m assuming my greivance is with them not crosman.  I have emailed them several times w no response.

Yup, it's with BNM and not Crosman.

All I can say is good luck to you because I've read others complain about after-sales lack of response from them. I thought about buying their breach for my Maximus but ultimately decided against it, fearing exactly this. If you think you've exhausted all reasonable options with trying to contact them, disputing the payment and returning the goods is another option.

Could be the "holiday rush." I bought a kit from them over the summer for my Maximus and couldn't be happier with it. I did send a couple of emails after buying as I hadn't heard from them but they did (finally) respond after a few days. The shroud has a retaining ring that goes around the barrel to hold the guts in place, at least there is in the Maximus. That may have slipped down, it is held by a grub screw, and may need to be adjusted and tightened. I didn't get mine exactly right and you can hear them slide just a bit inside of mine. If you haven't called them, I'd suggest that route, I've seen several members have good luck reaching them that way and some, not so much.

Wonder what's going on at BNM? This ain't the first story I've heard by a long shot. I know vendors that get a lot more ridicule for a lot less issues.

I may be way off here, but seems I remember that you have to not only tighten the cap down, but also fire a shot without pellet in bbl in order to properly pierce the co2 container. Been reading this for Years. ;)

I would contact crosman on the mag issue.

I didn't know Sergio (isn't that his name, the BNM guy?) sold custom guns...   I have always heard that he is impossible to get a hold of but I would keep trying.  You deserve to get a good working product for your money.  I have only bought one BNM breech and shroud for my disco and it worked very well and had no issues whatsoever.  Good luck, hope he makes it right so you can enjoy your gun!

Ever since I've been on this forum BNM hasn't struck me as not a reputable dealer at all, I was really into modifying the 22xx platform early on and avoided BNM just from what I had read!!!

A few people said parts wiggling around in the shroud is normal and that you want some play.  I’m not an expert so maybe that’s true.  It’s 14” after all. After modifying the screw c02 cartridges are going in okay and I have a cheap red dot from my p17 on there for the time being and it’s shooting good groups.  I may keep it and just tinker w it some more.  However I feel I shouldn’t have to do this much considering the amount spent.  I already ordered walnut grips and a new end cap cover since I stripped the original while trying to figure out the c02 issues.  Dissapointed but hopeful I can turn this tragedy into a project. Have a hammers long eye relief scout scope w a chrome finish coming to match the chrome finish on the rest of the gun.  I’ll post some pics of the finished product in a fee weeks when it’s completed.  Probably won’t be dealing w BNM in the future unfortunately.  The non responsive customer service had been a huge turn off for me.

Let's avoid turning this into a bashing/flaming session, it's against the forum rules anyway.
I'll toss out my 2 cents worth. I've done business with Sergio for several years. And I know some history back from the Cobra Airguns days when he was their machinist. I have his multi shot breech and shroud assemblies on at least 2 of my Disco's. You can find a couple of mine in his website photo gallery. He makes some fantastic stuff. He at times does lack communication skills. And yes, I believe THAT trait alone can make or break a business.
Sergio is more of a worker bee. He WILL stand behind his products and he WILL make it right. I had an issue once years ago with a breech that lead me to make contact with him the first time. That was just as he was about to branch out on his own as a vendor.
Anyway, I have in the past relayed messages from GTA members to him with their concerns. He was always quick to respond. I have just sent him a message about this one and we will see if he responds via email. I'll let you know when and what he responds to me. And I personally wouldn't hesitate to buy his products again.
Hang in there....

Ah, well I certainly appreciate the effort.  I’m not really bashing the company entirely.  I’ve read great things about their products and am happy with the quality of the parts as they stand.  The one screw was just too long in front of the trigger guard and the play im the shroud, although not entirely sure this is true, some are saying is normal.  And the rotary mag that came with, (I’m not sure if I mentioned this in the previois post) came broken with the spring pulled halfway out.  I’m sure thr mag thing was just a shipping mishap.  The only thing, like you said, that’s the real issue for me is the lack of communication.  I’ve yet to receive any feedback even from the first email I sent when I first ordered my piece.

I would be completely happy if I was just sent a new mag and c02 end cap, since I stripped the original.  But I’ve already ordered replacements via amazon and intend on just keeping and fixing what I’ve received.  I might order another custom from bnm soon for my younger brother since he wanted one, but I’m still a little on the fence.  Might just order the parts individually and do the work myself.

In short, All I wanted at the end of the day was feedback from the provider.  Nothing more.  Sorry if I seem to be bashing, I’m just trying to convey my feelings.  I still beleive their parts to be very well made.

Edit:  I’ve also heard many good things about Sergio as an individual across these forums.  So I can see that he cares about his business.

Damon, no harm no foul. I was just warning others to not turn this into a bash fest.
:)
You are quite fine stating facts and asking advise. And also expecting to get support from the vendor. I hope it works out to your satisfaction.

I for one thank Dave for getting in touch with BNM for me. I have learned that in order to contact them by phone, you need to call around 8-8:30  A.M. their time. Once you do make contact, they are quite pleasant to do business with. 8)

Hi, I've also had some trouble getting in contact with BNM custom recently. I ordered a shroud and barrel band but have only received a confirmation via PayPal. It would just be nice if they sent you an actual order confirmation directly as at the moment I feel a bit in the dark about the progress of the order etc. I have tried to get in contact via the website but I'm afraid ringing, as someone previous suggested might not be that simple as I am from the UK.

Really not worth the trouble! And poor attention to detail!

With internals being slightly loose in the shroud, I would try using an "0" ring the size of the inside dia. of the shroud between the last baffle and the cap. Works on many AG's. ;)

I never was able to get a hold of customer service of any kind.  The baffles in my shroud were also very loose.  I’m still okay with what I got, for the most part.  But I expected more for the price.

Something is definitely not right. I have been in communication and done business with Sergio for years. In the past he has always replied right back to me when an issue arose. This time I've gotten no response from him. Not like him at all. Will keep everyone posted when/if I hear back from him. He has always made excellent products and paid close attention to details. And always stood behind everything he made and sold. This business is a tough one and we see makers come and go. Sad but true. I hope he is not on the outgoing side of making airgun parts!!!

I just sent a couple of inquiries via their website and facebook page. It hasn't been 10 minutes since so I won't comment on communication but I was inquiring if he is still making breaches as it seems literally everything on his website is out of stock.

Does anyone know if his shop is still operational?

I found that by calling early in the morning, when Serj. first gets there, he answers the phone, dnad is is quite pleasant to speak too.

Rest of the day, he is in oneof his two machine shoops. Can't talk on the phone and run machines. Good way to loose a finger, hand, arm!

Those who have never worked heavy machine tools, cannot understand the attention required. I allowed NO one in my shop, land no phone. A simple ring out of the blue can spell disaster!

I have sent an email via their website and also one from a previous email conversation Sergio and I had.  Could be the same email address used by the web form.  That was about a week ago and so far I have heard nothing.  I'm looking for parts availability and not waiting on a order to ship.  I notice on their website that most (not all) items are listed as out of stock.

As people have said before, waiting for parts to ship was normal, however he typically responded within a day or two to an email.

I'm hoping the shop comes back to the surface soon as I'm wanting to order a .177 breech block and barrel/shroud band.

Just got one of those breeches on Amazon.  No instructions but facebook has some videos.  No need to trim barrel unlike the Russian ones.  Quality mediocre but functional.  Pin may fall out in the future, will peen it in place.  No retention in the open position so a little challenging to change mags.  Looks like their first ads just copied the Russian text.  Ads claim some sort of spring and ball retention.  None found in pictures or item received. Can be set up left handed but didn't test.

Hi yall I got one of those breeches first of the week, the holes in the rear are: center mts. it to the tube the l&r are the pivot points. I just fitted the .25 marauder bbl to it today, tomorrow I will mill out the mag well to fit the thicker rifle mag. I got a Mag. Airpower 15.5 tube and 60fpe valve, finished the power adj. few mins ago. I still gotta get another one of MAPs new hammer with the screw in cocking pin and adj. striker they work so much better against heavy springs. Hope to get my powder coat stuff ready this wk end too. I think its gonna make a nice pistol for yard management out to thirty or so. Hope yall have a good wk end.

That is how they are set up it, uses marauder rifle mags in .22 but I bet .17 hardware would work also. They are not made to plug and play on a prod it wont bolt up.

so.... this breech allows necessary height required for a shroud system and requires custom barrel band for said shroud?? what od barrel is
required? oh and which magazine fits it, prod or mrod?
Title: Re: BNM Custom problem

The difference in cocking is all in the name side lever and it works like putting power steering on your 65 Chevy. Add in MAPs new hammer oh yeah I haven't tried one in it yet, but that's gonna be iceing they made a big difference on my bolt guns much smoother/easier.  The .630 bore has a sleeve  bored to .447 so crosman barrels are on the menu along with a marauder rifle mag and Houston we have a repeater. It is set up for .22 cal but mine got wet and turned in to a .25 once I get it running I will do write up on it. Seems to be a good bang for the buck, I got it in about 2 weeks. I feel for the op I tried to buy bnm products to no avail. and the stories I read on here Im to old,  don't have enough time left fer all that. Sorry other fish in the sea. Good luck Oh yeah I think it will clear a 1" shroud easy.  later

I guess another vendor bites the dust.  Unable to find out anything about status of BNM or Sergio.

I really do like the breech kit, the bolt probe not being long enough was an issue for me as well.  I made a new by using a  section of a cutoff .22 barrel, piano wire and brass hobby tubing.  Was not hard to make and worked super well.  Sergio's kit really gave new (quiet and multi-shot) life to the Crosman product line.  Even though a pellet wouldn't completely clear the TP, at normal fps it didn't seem to matter much.  I imagine at higher power it made a big difference.

Oh well, water under the bridge it seems.

The 2240 pistol manual says to put the CO2 cartridge in and dry fire it 2 or 3 times to pierce the cartridge. If you don't then you may get a pellet stuck in the barrel.
