Mike - 2 to 3 days? A long while back, I was watching a BBQ documentary on TV...and I remember hearing about how in some places the BBQ process would take several days. For sure...that method is gonna make it nice and scrumptious, whatever meat you decide to throw down. I'm curious though...how do you guys pull that off? Is there always some manning the pit? Do you guys go in shifts? Gas? Wood? I dunno if I can last for 3 days, but I'd be willing to dig a hole in the ground and give it about 12 hours of cooking time.
Fun reading, this just keeps getting better and better. I would love to see some Arlo cam footage of a big jag.

That was back in the days of running with a biker club scene where there is always some one at the clubhouse 24/7. Its what prospect are there for to earn their stake. We built a 6 foot long pit from red brick that had access to underneath to keep the coal stoked. It was three feet deep and had a grated floor that the pigs were wrapped in some big leaves from what we called an elephant ear plant. one of the members had a back yard full of them. They were to mainly protect the meat from the coal ashes and help retain the juices. It was all underground except for the one side to access the coals and had a heavy steel top cover. I guess you could say it was a in ground smoker of sorts but it cooked great. Weren't the 70s and 80s so fun before big brother got greedy.Mike
I’m not going to lie.Every time I see this post title I imagine something like HRC or Rosie O’Donnell walking up to a tree stand.

I would love to see some Arlo cam footage of a big jag.Paulus, No big Jags. here, but here’s another one for you lol,I said in a earlier post I had seen two of the three pumas i’ve seen around here in my yard and posted on the first one. This one was’nt quite as personal as the other for me, but it was for the house cat we had lol.My ex and I had sold our first home on Big swamp creek and moved to Al. for a couple of years. When we moved back, we had a little place just down the road from her parents. It was about a half mile east of Big swamp and about a mile from our old house. We probably had been living in the new house for about 6 mths. and I wondered if any big cats were still around. One night we had left the cat out after dark and were eating supper. All of a sudden the cat started yowling like it had seen a ghost or something in the front yard. The outside light was on and I ran to the door and went out to see what I thought would be a dog or another cat after my kitty. When I stepped out I could hear my cat still raising cain right in front of me within 5 yds., but could’nt see him.I did look toward the road just in time to see a tawny colored juvenile( about 1/3 grown?) run across the road and jumped into an overgrown field heading west straight toward Big swamp creek lol.He looked like he was mostly tail lol and maybe 4ft. Long?Anyway my cat was still yowling non stop and still could’nt see him. He was somewhere around my truck parked by the steps.I finally bent down and looked under the front wheel well and there he was on top of the front tire. Every hair on him was standing straight out and his eyes looked as big as a half dollar lol.I finally coaxed him down and took him inside, then went back out to look around again. The tracks in the sandy drive told the tale lol.My kitty was walking by the truck towards the front of it and the little puma came straight in front of the truck.... they had met nose to nose at the right front fender.Don’t know if the little puma was actually after my cat, or was going to check out the garbage.Either way my little kitty probably thought he had walked right up on the King Kong of all cats.

We too have them all over. A few years ago, they had one in a city here. Right when all the kids had been heading to school. It was a small one the PD put it down one street from the school. Another guy was playing fetch with his wirehaired fox terrier. When he felt pain in his leg. The cat had bitten into his leg, the guys terrier flew into the cat and ran it off. On top of a near by hill where all the kids up there have to walk out to catch the school bus, one of the kids older brothers took 180-200lbs cat. Now we have snow on the ground I am always checking for tracks you just dont ever know.
Honest I haven't seen any fur bearing predators anywhere around here Mr Game Warden sir
