I feel your pain. I've got elbow bursitis, caused by my clumsy self wacking my elbow. Exacerbated by cocking my break barrels.......Now I have to alternate which arm I use for cocking. How do you cock and load a side lever? Cock with the right and load with the left? Turn the rifle over and cock with the left and load with the right. Seems you are trying to do an unnatural act. Lighter spring and short stroking would help your situation.-Y
Sounds like a PCP shooter being born. The 54 can be a challenge!! Sorry to hear about your shoulder / elbow issues. Getting older and creaky isn't for the faint of heart!! (assuming that is the cause!)
Man, that's tough. I don't know your situation regarding the dynamics of your problems... but I had almost given up un pumping up so much as a Daisy 880 because of the discomfort it caused me, mostly in my shoulder from an untreated injury I got in about 1980. Come to find out, doing some exercises that involved lifting nothing heavier than a can of cling peaches in heavy syrup, I was able to rehab to the point of using my shoulder almost as though I had never hurt it. Before this I would have laughed at such a suggestion, but it made a believer outta me!

Really, I mean real pain...judging from the worsening reactions from my shoulder and elbow...it looks like my side-lever days are certainly over. It's a good thing the 54's my only rifle of this type,it's bad that I will give up shooting it,as it's given me 11 years of fun...without ever leaving the yard...and shoots as advertised. Maybe I'll mount it,scope and all, on the cabin wall or something...it's pretty enough. (sigh) Bryan

I have a D54 and I suffer from a 'frozen shoulder'. I have to be careful how I cock my springers. If you can cock the LGU, you should be able to cock the D54. You just need to position the rifle accordingly. Try different positions and you should find something that works. I must do exercise to keep my shoulder mobile, you may have to as well. Good luck and keep trying, you will get there.
