Do I need to rebuild.

I recently pulled out my gamo hornet that has been collecting dust for the past few years, dont remember what year it is from but it has the plastic trigger. Out of curiosity I put a couple of shots over my chronograph and it is running mid to high 600s with 7.9 grain crossman premiers. I know that the 1000fps stamped on the barrel is only with lightweight pellets but i did expect it to be faster than this. I have 2500ish pellets down the tube so far to give you an idea of wear, I would have expected it to just be well broken it not wearing out. This is the first time i chronod the gun so i dont have a reference point for what it was shooting when new.
Is this a reasonable fps to be getting from this rifle or its equivalent?

Listen to Al - he KNOWS his Gamos. For my part I'd say try the tissue test to ensure it's not just the breech seal having gotten tired. That's the easiest fix.
Beyond that it may be the piston seal - which could have even been damaged at the factory. It's not uncommon. Your spring could be a bit tired as well.
These are all just consumables with an airgun, kind of like brakes or sparkplugs with a car.

Tried the tissue test it passed, and did 690 - 710 fps with 7.5 grn gamo pellets. It seems somethings up on the inside. I already bough some 2x4s and threaded rod to take this thing apart, remaining on my shopping list is a gamo tesla seal and E3650 spring from air rifle headquarters, and a medium breech seal from gamo (might as well while im at it). I have a tube of moly engine assembly paste from a ford 351W i built a while back, would this suffice? I also plan on running a cylinder hone down the compression tube for good measure.
I get the impression from here that the E3650 spring is a drop in affair but on the air rifle headquarters site they mention that spacers are required?
huge thank you to everyone

My Whisper 1300 got 805 +/- 5 for 10 shots with 10.5 grains and about 933 with 8.2 grains. That's after a fair amount of cleanup and smoothing. You're getting about 70% of the advertised fictional 1000. 70% for me would be about 910. I don't think I have a problem but my springer experience is about 3 months now so take it for what it's worth.

If it says 1000 lead, it's an imaginary number. That number would be using a very light lead pellet with everything optimized in the gun. Somewhere in the 800 range may be more realistic.
If you're ordering your seal from Air Rifle Headquarters I suggest the New - Gamo Tesla Piston seal
Prod. Code:
GPSTL. I also suggest getting their moly compound. Your engine build compound undoubtedly has moly in it but the percentage is pretty important. The stuff from ARH is probably at least seventy percent molybenum disulfide. The engine assembly lube likely has a lower percentage with regular grease as a filler. It will probably detonate in your airgun.

I was only mentioning the pba and lead advertised numbers so that i can make a better comparison to cardpunchers rifle. Since he says he would be happy with 70% of advertised, 70% of the pba advertised vs the lead advertised is a very different story. I suspect the 1300 on his whisper (havent looked it up) is a pba advertised, in my case if i got 70% of the 1200 pba advertised that would put me at 840 fps. It looks like he is getting better than 70% with 8.2 grain pellets so this shouldnt be unrealistic. If i could get the 70% at 840 fps shooting 8.2 grain id be a happy camper.
Good tip on not using the engine assembly paste. It could have been a dumb mistake to save a couple bucks, didnt think about the risk of detonation due to the filler being regular grease.
My only other question is if i need the spacers mentioned on the air rifle headquarters site?

The Moly that ARH sells uses mineral oil as a carrier and will diesel also....
I don't use Moly or Tar, only Kryrox 226.

I decided to install the tesla seal and e3650 spring with no spacers, didnt do any smoothing either. It's now shooting 900-910 fps with 7.9 grain crosmans.
