Motorhead,
You repeat what Macarri says.....and I have no doubt about the validity. It does little to further the understanding however. Understood you may want to guard your knowledge as you provide an equitable service. Proprietary knowledge, school of hard knocks, etc.
That said, I still have no idea *why* JM seals shoot slower than the rest. Even when sized. My experience matches this. Granted, no expert am I.
Reading over ARH sight / info with a fine toothed comb, I'm guessing it has to do with material hardness and wearing to the compression chamber for max seal. Mr M. makes a point of discussing how folks tune/install parts, head to the chrony and complain about fps before properly breaking in and re-evaluating. Am I on the right track?
Otherwise, it seems a common occurrence with the product.

There material is fairly hard and accurate sizing a must .... correct lubrication and a surface finish that IS NOT polished.
Piston seals are like automotive wind shield wiper blades, in that surface pressure of rubber too surface and speed that it travels effect how smooth they rub against one another.
I can not express how important it is to have a compression bore surface that is not too shiny or smooth ... like a WS wiper blade it can chatter if too smooth, honk if too tight.
The seals friction by both Lubricant and that of surface finish BOTH come into play.

Waiting to have some. Took some measurements of the three types of seal I have now, but am trying to talk myself into getting a Vortek seal to compare as well. Sticking point is 7 bucks to ship a 12 dollar seal that should cost all of .49 cents to ship. I know, I'm being cheap...maybe someone out there with a new Vortek seal could measure it up?

Measure all the seals on the piston. As you said the factory seal expanded more than the ARH.

I have 6 of the Vortek seals, bought 4 more after using the first 2 and having what so far are great results with the 2 rifles they're in. Those 2 measured 27.21 and so do the 4 new ones I just got this week.
I'm by no means a pro tuner and never will be, I do this solely for myself so the 2 that are installed weren't sized before I put them in and neither of the 2 rifles I put them in, a Hatsan 1000X Vortex converted to spring piston and a Webley VMX .20 converted to gas ram lost fps. Both are still shooting at the baseline numbers I got before I tore down both rifles, swapped the internals and rebuilt them.
Hope this helps some and yep, $7 is kind of steep for shipping a simple seal but with the results I've gotten and having them 5 days after I ordered them, it was worth it at least to me.

Ok, thanks for the input. That measurement tells me that they are at least worth trying/considering!

No complaints on my part and considering tearing down the Webley Spector .177 I tuned a year ago using an ARH seal and swapping it for a Vortek to see the difference in performance.

I went ahead and ordered some Vortek seals. Knowing that I can expect them to be at least 27.2mm makes it worth ordering a few. Thanks again, when they arrive, the comparo will begin (ohhh my poor, poor Valuemax)!
