Norica 56 missing top hat?

I recently purchased a slightly used Benjamin Titan and really like it, though I have only had the chance to test shoot it in the cellar. But gosh does the trigger does have a long pull! (Ball race already ordered for trigger mod.)
It will soon have a new scope and the Centre Point thing that came with it has hopped over to a Norica 56 that came with the deal.
I enjoy cleaning and tuning air rifles, the Norica has had an overhauling, received moly polish and ptfe piston sleeve, after putting it back together I realised that there was no front spring guide in the cylinder, looking on the net I see a couple of images that show such a guide/ top hat.
Can anyone confirm that these rifles sometimes come without a guide? (Or has something happened to it earlier in its life, I find this unlikely due to the trigger removal challenge, and I don't think I lost it during dismantling)
Otherwise the Norica is now a sweet little shooter.

If your rifle is shooting as you want it without the top hat then don't worry about it. The only thing you might need is a washer inside the piston to help the spring wind up and unwind and prevent damage to the inside end of the piston.
The top hat will add weight to the piston and some spring pre-load. If the spring is too sloppy in the piston and noisy you could sleeve the inside of the piston with a strip of plastic from a milk bottle or aluminium from a coke can.
Maybe the rifle needs nothing. Then again you might want to make a top hat and see what difference it makes.
I don't know if the Norica originally had atop hat; it probably did if assembled correctly.
PS could the top hat be still stuck in the piston? No, you must have looked.

Thanks for reply Novagun, yes had looked in the piston, nothing there. I will follow you advice a pop a polished washer in front of the spring, I have installed a ptfe piston sleeve. And yes, the rifle is shooting as I want, light and with very little recoil, it will be something for my son to start with before progressing to the Hatsan monster in the closet!

Some guns have a tophat, some do not. I couldn't actually see the tophat in my TX200 but knew it MUST be there. I put brake cleaner into the piston to dissolve a LOT of old grease. I then inverted the piston and tapped it on my bench. Sure enough, a tophat fell out.
The primary purpose of a tophat seems to be to center the spring and keep it from dragging on the inside of the piston. Your piston sleeve should accomplish that.
