My older stepson was involved in a traffic accident last night the other vehicle made a left turn across traffic. My stepson was in the right hand (one of two) with a large pickup truck in the left lane slightly in front of him heading in the same direction. the young lady involved in the collision with my stepson made the left turn in front of my stepson and the pickup. The driver of the pickup slammed on his brakes and missed her car my stepson never saw her coming since the truck blocked his view of the car coming across the traffic until it was to late to stop.
If the young lady had waited until traffic cleared the intersection all of the drama would have been prevented . The young lady is 18 years old and probably running late to get somewhere. My sons car is totaled and he will be going to the doctor and probably an MRI of his neck and shoulders. Typical of the male of the species my stepson declined the ambulance ride to the hospital.
This morning I will spend my rainy day off at the doctors office and the MRI facility getting him checked out then off to the police station to file his accident report.
Young people and bad decisions this is why parents have grey hair and go bald

I hope your step-son ends up okay without any long-term effects, Don.
The young lady very likely had her attention elsewhere. I don't know what police do in NY, but here in VA, if there's an accident with injuries, cell phone records generally end up being pulled. Be as involved as you can here- I'm not knocking your step-son's abilities by any stretch, but you have the advantage of decades of experience and the cynicism that comes with it.
Bad decisions are part of growing up. There's some truth in your last sentence.

sounds like a merrick road type accident. My cousin had a very similar accident in Seaford trying to make a left on merrick rd when we were kids. Anyway , the accident wasnt unavoidable , kids dont see things happening while driving.. As a Cdl driver , the person next to me tapping the brakes means 20 different things, when I was young it meant nothing. All a learning curve, hope hes okay, and Ill bet he never makes the same mistake again.( not blaming him , but there will always be 18 yr old girls with cars
