Well, after watching Stefan's rat tally continue to climb this week I decided I needed to get out and cull the herd again. So I followed my checklist for an evening of ratting:
1. Kiss wife goodnight (very important!)
2. Give dogs chew bones - so they will stay quiet and in the house
3. Fill insulated cup with iced tea
4. Put extra peanuts under bird feeders
5. Apply bug spray (deep woods Off - them Texas Skeeters are huge!)
6. Settle into my lawn chair
7. Watch sunset / nightly bat colony flyover
8. Hear rustlings start! Get into shooting position. Any minute now...
AND the next door neighbors burst out of their house and start to party!!! Music, lights, dogs, dancing etc etc.
9. Go inside and watch TV

Hopefully the rats are in a partying mood.

Haha so true! I 've had that happen several times especially in the evening before sundown I am all ready to get that G-hog that's been sticking his head out from under the shed in the spring/summer, or waiting for that Starling to get closer, or I am watching a squirrel come my way from the neighbor's during the season like in September, and all of a sudden noise, voices, loud music, dog barking, sometimes fireworks... and I conceal the rifle and retreat deeper to the house (usually from my enclosed porch) like the G-hog (hehe) I was watching going back under, or shut the bedroom window and try to find something else to do
I am still trying to figure out what the benefit of having neighbors is, except maybe for watching your house while you are away
