Fiber optic sights are they fragile?

Fiber optic sight woe's
Rant: Seems I have bad luck with fiber optic front sights being just plain fragil. The first springer rifle I bought was a Walmart crosman 177 with fiber optic sights. Bought it early saturday morning, went to my cousin's home where his son and I had a jolly good time shooting for several hours. Went to put my springer into the trunk of my car noticing the bright orange fiber optic rod was missing. Figured it would be easy to find, but it was never found, so I returned that springer to Walmart for a refund as they had none to exchange!
My next springer was a RWS34p with fiber optic front sight that was not covered, seems the later 34's have a cover over the front sight protecting the fiber optic rod. That rifle was scoped and the iron sights were forgotten about. Until one day I noticed what looked like a peep sight aperture on the front sight, upon inspection I realize the front sight was broken and the fiber optic rod and the other aperture were missing. That front sight has two apertures with the fiber optic rod inserted for light transmission? Not being used I removed and discarded the front sight.
Receintly I bought another new rifle with williams fire sight model 70220
https://ads.midwayusa.com/product/962901/williams-fire-sight-front-sight-ramp-485-height-fits-875-barrel-diameter-aluminum-black-fiber-optic-red?cm_mmc=pf_ci_google-_-Gunsmithing+-+Gun+Sights+(Metallic)-_-Williams-_-962901&gclid=CMHS5P63wNQCFUQcaQodcWsEKA
And yes the sight was a factory defect, the center aperture was partially crushed fracturing the fiber optic rod insert. I attempted to do a through inspection of my new purchase before leaving the gun shop but missed this completely. Only noticing after about 40 or so rounds down the pipe.
Rant end. As for the rest of the story, called customer support, expressed how impressed that my new purchase was everthing I dreamed it would be and it also had a factory defect. Explained I really didn't want to send it back for a front sight replacement, that I could or would have gunsmith replace. She said no problem and put a new front sight in the mail.
Since then I found out that front sight fiber optic replacement rods a readily available, of course you need to measure the diameter before ordering. Since this sight has three apertures, I can remove or repair the center aperture and replace the crushed fiber optic rod for a backup/spare sight!
After acquiring progressive lens eye glasses, the world of iron sights has opened up and I enjoy that type of shooting again!

Interestingly enough I just replaced the rear fo site rods on my Walther Terrus. Why it broke I don't know. I was just shooting and noticed the site looked wacked and upon inspection I found the right side rod broke in two places.
I have several other guns with fo sites and never had any issue. My .40 ipsc gun has been fired thousands of times over the last 20 years and no issue. Maybe it's just a spring gun thing.....
