Well i joined this forum almost two years ago with the intensions of buying a high powered air rifle for hog hunting. i spent about a year reading the forums and almost pulled the trigger on a sumatra .25 a number of times. However i ended up taking up archery and getting into bowhunting. That set back my budget for a hog rifle. But it really gave me somethings do with my time that i have enjoyed and i have no regrets. A few months latter a had a problem with some raccoons getting into my chicken coups so out of frustration. I purchased a Benjamin Trail Nitro Piston 2. Which again set my budget back for a hog rifle. "Funny part is after i got the rifle sighted in and sat out in the cold a few nights coons never showed back up " Any how my brother has secured some hunting properties in Virginia that have opened up some opportunity for white tail hunting with an air rifle and i still want a hog gun so i find myself on these forums a lot reading about various big bores. There are a number of rifles i would like to have. However the budget is probably my biggest concern. Which has led me to the badger .40 everything i have read about it makes me think it is the tool for the job that i need done.My Biggest concerns right now are Air & Optics. AIR - Im probably going to start with a hand pump to keep my initial costs down. I'm fairly athletic and this gun is going to be used as a Hammer not as a plinker so i figure i will do what i have to do until i invest in another solution." If this is insane and a really bad idea let me know? " I'm new to big bores. I just know I'm not scared of some hard work.Optics- I don't know much about optics and i don't want to break the bank on them. However id rather not regret my decision and end up buying a different scope in the long run. So if i have to ill spend a little more up front. this is an area I'm very novice in and any advice will be welcome. This rifle/scope combo will be solely intended for hunting Meat animals, medium sized hogs and deer. Ive been reading up on this stuff for a couple years but its kind of overwhelming when you try to look at all the information out there. So any advice is welcome as i am a complete newb to big bores. I am however excited to start this journey. ill probably be looking to start ordering everything in a month or so.Well im of to do some more reading on scopes and such.
Whats your scope budget?
Forgive me if this or any of the information I ask about this rifle is available on the forums. I've ran just about every search combination I could think of and read through every thread I have found on it. I'm curious if anyone has been shooting .395 round balls with consistent accuracy . Im thinking I might be able to get multipurpose out of this rifle by filling to a lower starting pressure and using it for pesting as well. I mean a 92gr Round ball traveling at even 700fps still pushing 100fpeBut if it's not accurate at all it's not worth a darn.
