Any suggestions for an entry level FT rifle? Looks like a lot of fin but my Hatsan breaks the 20fpe limit.

.177 is common the .22 is used also but harder on smaller kill zones. Are you looking for springer or a pcp ? it does not have to be the "latest and greatest" when I went to my first field target event I was given great advice " Enjoy your gun not your score card " I did and had a wonderful time and planning on doing more.

For Field target ... Honestly stick with .177 cal !!

A .22 ( lightest 14.3 grain ) maxes velocity at 817 fps
A .177 ( using a heavy 10.3 grain ) maxes out closer to 935 fps

No brainer which gets there faster and flatter

Tho ... that said, wanting a PCP or Springer does change suggestions quite a bit

IMO you have 2 choices at the entry level worthy of the expenditure.
Not on the cheap .. but paid good money and got a darn fine rifle !!

If you can find a B40. A bone stock TX or HW97K will get you in the game. Then if you decide to stay you can get the rifle tuned and add a custom stock and have equipment that can compete with the best out there.

Oh how I wish there were FT Matches within reasonable driving distance from central NH. I have not found one that is less than a 3 hour drive each way!

I have the equipment but no place to go!

I almost went to Crosman's Match and would have made a three day weekend out of it. Being a Crosman Authorized Repair Center I'm sure I could have gotten a complete detail tour of the complex and meet some of the Crosman employees I talk to on the phone. Other prior commitments prevented that from taking place.

I am thinking of going to the one in Damascus MD. I need to do more research on joining the club. But I am more just practicing and buying equipment geared toward that. I can hit a bar door but that's about it when I get off the bench.

Wondering how much you are looking to spend on your springer. You said you want an entry level rifle. Some of the popular fixed barrel rifles TX and HW rifles are over $600.00 to start. Of course, there are some good looking wood stocks, that figure into the price. Just asking if you would consider synthetic stocks, with accuracy. Also how "into it" you wanna get as a starter in FT. Stocks can be changed down the road...

FT or HFT is a game of Precision shooting ... If gun DOES NOT hit where pointed it becomes a mute point to improve ones shooting competence if a hit or miss is unknown as too being shooter or gun

Get a GOOD GUN and 1/2 your worries just got resolved ... Your missing it's YOU

X2!!! Get a GOOD GUN. There are good fixed barrel rifles that won't cost you and a lot to be competitive with.
