Daisy Avanti 853 Trigger

I'm thinking about getting an 853 for some informal 10 meter target shooting. The only drawback I see from what I've learned about it so far, is the trigger. A 6# trigger dosent sound like it belongs on a target rifle!
Are there any aftermarket triggers available? Can the stock trigger be modified for a much lighter pull? I found a reference to Pilkgun.com as having some aftermarket stuff for the 853, but the site dosent seem to exist anymore.
Any suggestions, comments or advice is welcome!

The stock Daisy trigger is LOUSEY
Not only is it heavy, but it is gritty (the pull is not consistent)
No after market trigger is available, as far as I know.
Check out this thread on fixing the x53 trigger.

Just to add on one precaution of to light a trigger on the 853. The slam of the pump may set the trigger off. So you may want to pump before loading. Learned the hard way and have a pellet in the ceiling.

Triggers that are a bit heavy do not bother me as long as they are consistent. I did stone and polish mine though, for smoothness.

You can make the trigger passable.
It's been long enough that I couldn't begin to tell you everything I did on mine. It is dual stage, and pulls 10oz. I have never had a misfire in over 40,000 shots, either.
I hated the screw modification (Pilk).....I had exactly the same thing that Kailua mentioned happen to me.......and also have a hole in my kitchen ceiling to show for it.
I just used common sense to modify mine. I know I milled the sear differently, and added a small metal dowel pin (1/16") to it to keep it from returning all the way. I also removed the hammer spring from the sear, because that is what contributed to the heavy pull the most. I made my own little bracket to hold the back of the hammer spring to remove it's influence on the trigger pull. If you get in there and look at it, you'll probably see what I'm talking about.
Stay on the conservative side of modification until you have a good grasp of what you're doing.
If I ever pull it apart again.......I'll take some pictures.

Thank you for the great response, and advice based on your experience! Great community here; a wealth of information available, and everyone seems so willing to share. I thought that the 853 may be a "sleeper", and now it seems obvious. I'll go slow, and be conservative in my trigger work. I've worked on a lot of powder-burners, but pretty green as far as airguns are concerned. But, same principals apply to trigger work. Thanks again!!

The standard test is to cock the hammer, then drop the rifle butt first onto the floor from about a foot, if the hammer releases, you have too little sear engagement. You can do similar for charging the rifle, if the hammer releases, you have too little sear engagement.
I think the method I use is
- pull the bolt back, to release hammer pressure on the valve
- charge the gun
- load pellet
- push bolt forward
I think the Daisy method is to
- pull bolt back
- load pellet
- push bolt forward
- set safety, this presumes that the safety is fully functional and has not been compromised by alterations
- charge gun
- release safety
