I tried a 35 out, hoping for 20-30 yard minute-of-tin-can at 2 or 3 pumps...didn't happen. I got a second one that is a bit better but still sends fliers off more often than I'd like.On the first one, I experimented with stabilizing the barrel in the shroud and at the muzzle, with the original and different smoothbore barrels. I tried a couple 499 barrels, one off ebay claiming to be tighter/faster, and some 4.5 mm carbon fiber tubes from china. The winner so far, and I haven't experimented further, is the CF tube. It is 500mm = 19.7 inches, so it sicks out the front a little bit. It's not as particular about type of BBs as it is number of pumps -- it likes 6 best. Not the 2 or 3 pumps I'd hoped for, but the 35 is pretty easy pumping even up to 6. It was doing about 1/2" 5 shot groups at 10m and almost never misses the tin cans at 25 yards. I have no idea how long CF will hold up to steel BBs but it's a joy to shoot for now.
How easy is the installation of the CF barrel?
Bob, you should try swapping a 880 barrel into a 35... gotta cut down about 5 in but the results are astonishing. Mine will stack 7.4 domes at 20 yards no problem. Cans at 40 yards with open sights are a breeze. use a small pipe cutter and gently cut the barrel as to not crimp it. clean the crown and polish it. that is it. straight swap. Havent shot a BB out of it ever again.
