Hi Steve,Your issue got me curious, so I took the shot tube out of my own 499B to have a look (see picture, hope it's clear enough). I too saw an off-center shiny spot down there, but with mine you clearly hear the ''clink!'' sound, and the gun shoots very well. Have you tried dropping a bb in the shot tube while it was out? Maybe there's a tight spot in it? It doesn't take much of a restriction to jam a bb, as these shot tubes are pretty tight for accuracy. It's also possible that the bb doesn't contact the magnet, manufacturing defects do happen unfortunately. If the shot tube is good, maybe a tear-down is in order.

Dropped a bb down shot tube out of gun and slid right through no problem. no tear down for me, at 76 years old don't really care to work on airguns much anymore.
I got burned on buying a used 499, my bad. To remedy the situation, I ordered a brand new one, hoping it arrives today. Then I will get it sighted in and have a bb shoot off all for fun, with my 499, I have a RR and a Daisy 35 which is very accurate with bbs at two pumps. Keeping the bad used one as the wood and metal are near perfect.
