Title: Would a "crossbow" scope work on a springer?
Post by: ray1377 on January 23, 2019, 03:34:16 PM
Sorry if this is the wrong place for this thread but I really didn't know where else to put it.
I was just wondering if a crossbow scope might stand up to the violent double recoil of a spring gun?
It would stand to reason that a crossbow has a whole lot more vibration that say a rifle when being fired.
What with the limbs flexing under pressure and then snapping back into their relaxed position after the shot?
Have any of you used a crossbow scope on a springer? If so, how well has it held up?

Thanks
Ray

As I understand it, they are robust enough for a springer. At least for a lighter weight one like an HW30. For a while last year there was a guy selling Crosbow scopes on ebay for really cheap. They were 3-9x40 AO's and sold for about $30 each. He said they were non-branded Kruger's. I bought about three or four of them and they all have held up. Excellent scopes for that price BTW. Still have it on my ebay watch list in case they come up again.

As an aside, most of the CB scopes I've seen have the reticle dots from the center down only.

The dynamic of their actions is the same almost as far as forward recoil goes with the crossbow having much more forward slamming as that is it's only function. I have no doubt that a crossbow scope will work. Hard to imagine any spring gun having the same or even close to the same forward momentum of a 150lb draw crossbow.

I was sorta thinking along those same lines is the reason I asked.
Only downside is that most crossbow scopes aren't very high magnification.
Most are like 4x32. Might be worth looking into?
Keep those thoughts and opinions coming.

Thanks

Just curious as to why you're considering a C/B scope in the first place.

The only reason that I have one is because of that great ebay deal, and, it's a great scope. Other C/B scopes I've seen are kinda so-so in the feature department.

Just thinking outside the box I guess.

Yes crossbows scopes hold up on springers. I run an Excalibur Scope on one. Phoned the company and got told it is fine on a springer. Second springer I run a Hawke crossbow scope. Crossbows have double recoil and a lot more violent than a springer pellet gun. Nice thing about it if focuses in to 5 feet away so they are a great choice for close indoor shooting in the house in winter.

Maybe not for springers, but for a 45 or 50 Sam Yang they make perfect sense.  You can zero at 50 yards and have holdovers out past 100.
