Man am I excited. After much consideration I finally bit the bullet and got myself registered for the 2017 AAFTA National Championship. Its being held near Phoenix Arizona in early November. 90 days seems like a long time but the cut off is sept 1st which is quickly approaching.
I knew all along this was something I wanted to do one day but because I'm still considered a new shooter with much to learn I was a little hesitant. It was actually my wife who suggested I go. Knowing how much I've come to love air rifles and FT shooting she thought this would be a great experience for me and I quickly agreed. I'm betting all my hero shooters will be there and figure this is a good chance to see some of them up close and personal.
Registration was done on-line from the Phoenix Airgun Clubs website. Even I thought it was easy. From there I was also able to book a room and obtain other much needed information. Garrett and the Phoenix staff has done an exceptional job of planning the event in hopes of making it a memrable occasion for all. To get the full effect of all this hard work and planning I hope to get there as early as I can on Thursday. I want to see range, get in some practice and check out all the air gun equipment being displayed. flying back on Monday but only after attending the specially planned banquet and shaking all the winners hand. No decisions yet on how I'll transport my equipment. Still studying on that one. I did think it was really nice of the folks at Air Guns of Arizona to except shipment of our treasured equipment and then hold for pick up for this event. They've also agreed to assist with getting our equipment shipped home as we leave. This option is looking pretty good to me.
There’s a lot to do and in my case to learn so I’d better be getting at it. If you are still on the fence, go to ftpodcast.com and listen to Scott Allen interview the president of the host club Garrett Kwakkestien. This will shake the fence a bit for sure. Ok, hope to see you there.

Congratulations Ray,
You will have a great time. You will meet people you have read about and followed while shooting field target. You will be challenged to overcome your fears and perform under great pressure. And most of all you will find out that everyone there is your best friend and willing to give you all the advice and help you can handle.
Everyone who enjoys shooting field target should attend a National Championship at least once. It is quite an experience and you will truly have a great time. I think the Phoenix Club will put on an incredible event, and perhaps be able to elevate the event to the level a national championship should reflect.
I hope to meet you in Phoenix.
