Another "frictionless" fore end rest for bench shooting my springers (etc)
Tallbald:
Years ago I came up with one where I had to remove and reinstall the axle of the rolling paint roll rest. Until joining here and learning, I never realized that a springer needed to roll freely forward and backwards when shot. A lot of drilling for adjustment holes and slow for me to change on the first design.
This time I used a drilled section of broom handle through a short section of foam pool noodle and made it infinitely variable in its' range. I like to salvage curbside furniture and the wood here is mostly, I think, pecan from a trashed 1950's dresser drawer front run through the planer to remove finish and yuck stuff. Base is scrap plywood from another salvaged wood project, while the tightening knob is a captured nut oak affair turned then stippled for grippiness. Glued and screwed together, the rest breaks down into two main parts to stuff in my range bag. Cheap hardware store washers nuts and a 5/16 inch bolt (really though is there still such a thing and ANY cheap hardware?).
Hope it works well. if not it's back to the drawing board for me.
Don.

I think that will work nicely.

Love the craftsmanship.

Excellent idea and good craftsmanship.
Tallbald:
Thank you guys. Appreciate your good words. Will support the buttstock in my hand as my hand rests on a small ground corncob filled bag. learned that here too.
