I appreciate the first model 101, just got in a “A” serial number rifle in awesome orginal finish. Goes with my B and C serial number examples.  A amd B have steel barrels the C started the bronze barrel.  See Imgur link for more pics of the A. Hard to find these early rifles in good condition, they tended to be used up.

Three great examples. There’s just something satisfying about these early rifles. I like the feel and shouldering. They just feel right.

 I have a model 100, and yes, they just fit and function so naturally.

So those numbers and letters have meaning after all!  Those look like they were actually used quite a bit, but still in pretty good shape, very nice. Heck, finding 3 all with the original rear aperture site (if you can call it that) is pretty remarkable.

DWTrull:
"A" serials are the 2nd year. "C" serials are the 5th year.
And yes, the serial numbers do have meaning.
