I had looked up Red Shouldered Hawk as well, but the pictures Google returned showed a lighter colored breast, so wasn't sure, but your picture of the pair sure looks similar!  Sidewise, he fit the description!

That’s a nice red shouldered hawk. Took some pics yesterday of a juvenile Cooper’s hawk. Raptors are awesome

It's a red shouldered hawk, they frequent places that attract birds and rats, I don't hang bird feeders up any more because the hawks, got tired of the birds being nailed, it's bad enough with the chickens.
