When my Benjamin 392 arrives I may do the Steroid thing, but was wondering ..... If I buy Tim's Steroid Kit will the gun function as if Tim did it ?
I have all the equipment to do the work myself, but was wondering if Tim does other stuff like bore out valves or ? ..... I don't know ?
My other question is on velocity increase ? With a "Do It Yourself" Steroid mod do you guys in the know think I could get 750-775 fps using JSB Jumbo Heavies, (18.1gr) or about 24fpe at the muzzle ? If not, what realistic fpe are you guys that have the steroid conversion getting ?

Really depends on how many pumps you are willing to make.

I see you are all in on your new 392. They can make 24 fpe and the steroid parts would be a good start if you modify it. Your results will vary . Maybe 21 fpe . I don’t know what work Tim does in the conversion but I don’t think any boring or drastic changes are done to the valve.

You'd have to ask Tim to know for sure, but I remember a post by him once saying that you may see guns for sale that claim to be "steroided" because they have some of his steroid parts but if the work wasn't done by him then it's not steroided.

I will give Tim a call tomorrow, if I can get 17+ fpe at the muzzle with just the mods, that is enough for my needs ... using a heavy pellet giving me over 12fpe at 50 yds because of the high BC. Any FPE over this is a major gift for my use. I would love more FPE but we will see ?

Honestly, I'd send in the gun and let Tim do the work. That way you know it's right, and he's a perfectionist so it'll be RIGHT.

Just make sure you send him an accurate gun, steroiding won't make it any more accurate. If you buy a gun from Tim, have it shipped to you first to check accuracy, that way it can probably be returned to Crosman if it is a scattergun. Regards, Tom

Talked about how the quality of these Benjamin guns are not what they used to be, and if you hear anything strange going on or roughness.... stop... and send the gun to him ! Said the steroid mod is more than just parts, it’s what he does the the insides of the gun that make it perform 24-30 fpe depending on the things that are done !!!!! That turns your 392 into a gun that will last a lifetime and perform at more than peak performance :-)
I just got my 392, Mac1 mount, rings and installed the butt stock pouch.... will send a pic after supper in another post .... Scope arrives Tuesday.

My steroided gun will make 30 fpe on ten pumps . Not sure what was done as I bought it used but it is way more powerful than a friends stocker .

Wow! That's about 10fpe more than my Steroided Racine 342 with 10 pumps.

3 FPE per pump is really hot.
Must be a very special gun.
30 FPE with 14.3 CPHPs would be 972 FPS.
Can you post the pellet weight and velocity please?

I purchased a "new model" Steriod 392 from Tim a few years back and have been very pleased with it. Attached is a chrony list with different pellets and pumps.

My bad , I went through my notebook with all of my chrony tests . I hit 655 fps with 31 grain BBT bullets with 14 pumps . Not the 10 pumps I thought. Just to confirm I just ran a test with 5,7,10,12 and 14 pumps using the 31 gr BBT bullets .
5=475
7=564
10=583
12=618
14=709
At 14 pumps the gun starts to retain air ,not a lot but enough to push a pellet out of the bore . Safe to say this rifle puts out over 30FPE . I’ve been thinking of adding a small reservoir to get a follow up shot or two. I’d hate to mess this one up , she’s a real good shooter . I’ll try with some JBS 25 grainers to see what it does , it really likes heavier weight projectiles .

Wow, that gun is real mo#%, I’d consider that gun for “Trash Can Elephants” for sure (Large Raccoons)

Those are very nice numbers but 14 pumps to get to 700fps would wear me out.
Have you tested the gun for accuracy with the different loads? I would assume heavier loads are more accurate with a sterioded gun.

My 392 is my truck gun equipped with a Williams peep sight . I keep a tin of well lubed BBT bullets in the glove box . During hunting season that is . I haven’t missed a partridge or rabbit with it yet . Come to think of it I think I’ll make some stew ........ mmmmm mmm rabbit stew.

Gained quite a bit in fps from 12 to 14 pumps. Maybe a chronograph error or retained air. Still a powerful 392PA.
